Did any of you watch the opening ceremony tonight (that's why I'm still up)?  It's only the first night and I'm tired of the commentators.  I think when I watch the real competition, I'll turn the volume OFF and enjoy the show.  By the way, I only watch the real competition, i.e. things that are timed or measured--objective over subjective.

Good Luck Athletes.

I did watch.....I do like seeing the sheer number of countries, and LOVE seeing the countries with just 2 or 3 competitors. Something special about those athletes.

I am also curious to see some of the obscure sports, like badmitton. Would be kind of fun to see how good the people are who are serious about a sport I play at BBQ's with my family.

What really impressed me was the ping-ping players. They're standing 8 feet away from a table no larger than a legal tablet... The boys must have been potty trained at a really early age to have aim that good.

Badminton obscure! Bite your tongue

As an avid badminton player I am dying to see some coverage - I would like to have seen the round of 32 where the worlds number one seed was knocked out in the first series! I think we will be lucky to get 60 seconds of badminton on TV. During your average 3 game match (about an hour and 15 mins) a badminton player runs 6 K and hits the shuttlecock between 1000 and 2000 times. Shuttlecock speeds have been clocked at 288 KPH - yes 288 KPH - that is fast enough to light the bar-b-q

And that, my friends, is why I wanted to see it - with stats

you're right, it should not be obscure.....obscure more in the sense of TV coverage. Truly, I would get more entertainment out of those than some others (like USA basketball....sigh).

signed,

the man who LOVES when he finds ping-pong on ESPN sunday morning...hehehe
