Pre-race routine:

Wild Samba festival in Södermalm before 10K (picture below). Also, "drag race" with cross-dressing runners (also pictured).

Swim
  • 1h 04m 55s
  • 3200 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

Considerable chop after Västerbron along N Mälarstrand, made breathing difficult. Used breast stroke on occasion, and seemed faster than others swimming near me. Temp never an issue as water was comfortably warm. Maintained cruise pace for entire race, with alternate breathing virtually the entire way.
What would you do differently?:

Try harder to pick up pace after Västerbron. The chop made it more difficult than I had expected to maintain an efficient freestyle.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

no transition == 10K begins at 10 pm.
Run
  • 51m 18s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 08s  min/km
Comments:

Planned to run at HR=155, 160, 165 and 170 for each of first 10 minute segments, and then to let loose for the last ~10 minutes; slowed down by big crowd, especially in beginning, because I was #11256, seeded in the 5th group; steady rain at start of race (wore plastic bag to stay warm and dry-good move); tripped over curb between K6-K7 and skinned hands and knee -- distracted by gel wrapper in hand--felt like a real doofus; felt strong at the finish, and disappointed that time wasn't better.
What would you do differently?:

Get proper seeding to prevent delays; plan for the hill and work to make up lost time on the downhills
Post race
Warm down:

2 bananas and 2 waters

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Started too far back, which forced me to hold back in crowds, especially on downhill stretches

Event comments:

Somewhat disappointing times given my subjective impressions of the races: reasonably good form, strong finishes;
