Pre-race routine:

missed alarm clock, behind 20 minutes to start, argh!!, rushed out the door, no gas in car, argh!, no breakfast, argh! Get gas and breakfast at quickie mart, argh! Made up the time in driving, got to race on time but not as stress free as would have liked, got all registered and marked with good time to chill, helped some new people find their way,
Event warmup:

simple stretch, light jog, light swim, light hydration
Swim
  • 20m 24s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

eally wanted to do better, still sucked at the swim, did worse than last year (19:56)and that was my first tri!!!, same course, Felt more comfortable than last year, navigated well, stayed inside but definitely sucked! Got out of the water and looked at watch and instantly bummed. Effect the rest of the event, just psyched out.
What would you do differently?:

Might have to make an investament in a wetsuit next year, and spend more time swimming since it is a deep weakness, really bummed!

HAVE TRIMOM 217 TO ME TO PUNCH ME WHEN I SLOWED DOWN!!!!
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

short run to transition area, found bike fine, into shoes fine, had a gu, thru on race number (no shirt, used race belt, tried eliminating time for wet shirt) and a short jog to start. OK transition but a bit off track due to swim time psych thing.
What would you do differently?:

all good
Bike
  • 34m 14s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.03 mile/hr
Comments:

really needed to kick in the bike to make up for lost time, pushed high cadence and good gears, pushed hard and stayed aero.
What would you do differently?:

all good, remeber to push off button on bike computer when done
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

This time I took the time to put socks on for the run, yeah!, no blisters. Threw a shirt on and headed out. Felt I had made up time as best as could at this point, Legs a bit wobbly, stomach a bit churned up,
What would you do differently?:

all good
Run
  • 26m 39s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

wanted to do better but 2 factors, 1) wanted to save something for the mass tri the day after (cancelled) and 2) stomach felt lousy. Felt bloated and gassy, legs not too lively
What would you do differently?:

work on pre-race nutrition,
Post race
Warm down:

hit the shade and celebrate 1 year of triathlon, yipee!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1. 9 days off in mid training. Hard to get back up to speed in just 9 days
2. pre-race nutrition and pre-race timing

Event comments:

this was typical FIRM race, a good race, room for improvement. Course could be marked better, run course should have miles marked, bike could have potholes fixed or at least marked, course could be marked better. Police were out at intersections but some bikers almost got wiped out by cars. One near hit that I witnessed. But over all a good race.

Sounds like it wasn't your day from the start. You'll do better next time. We all have those days. Just remember, you did a lot more exercise than most people did yesterday.

hey, I woulda gone if I had known you were going! I've contemplated this one for a few years because a racing bud lives in Barrington. But it always conflicts with Sharon, and Sharon always wins. Looks like I picked wrong this year.

You had a great race!
