  • 1500 yards
  • 02m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a horrible time...had to take half a dramamine because when I swam in the lake the day before I was getting motion sickness. Not as bad today, but I was somewhat dizzy and nauseous the whole swim. Not used to swimming with current/waves. Took in a lot of water and majorly interrupted my rhythm. Had to breast stroke a fair amount to catch my breath and stop the nausea. Considered stopping the race when I came out of the water. I felt horrible and my heart rate was ridiculously high (170s) and spent way to much time in the water.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know what else to do to improve my open water swimming.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Compared to others, my transition time was average...was a pretty long run from the shore to the transition area.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 51s
  • 21.7 miles
  • 16.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Spent the first half of the bike recovering from the horrible swim. About half way through started doing better. This ride was definitely below my capability on the bike. Did take in good fluid and calories.
What would you do differently?:

Have a better swim.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

My transition was faster than most...wasted no time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 03m 32s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

at 0.5 miles had a cramp and walked a few seconds and it went away...was afraid to go all out on the run, but ran the rest at a comfortable pace and gave it a little extra the last mile when I realized I really was going to finish.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster next time

Hey I was up there too. Congratulations on the finish. Are you going to do the one at West Branch next week?

you'll probably feel better after a few more open-water swims. I don't get nearly as anxious as I used to. Keep at it and see how it goes. But hey, you had a great race overall, nice job!

Im originally from Cleveland, but live in SC now....did this race while visiting family and friends, but no other plans to race in Ohio in the near future...and definitely plan to stay out of Lake Erie for a while.... Good luck next week.

Thanks to all for encouraging words...it was the first time I seriously considered quitting a race, but glad I didn't.
