I was thinking of getting some HED3's as a race wheelset, but the more I research them, I think I might have a hard time handling them in crosswinds. And we get plenty of that here in the Metroplex.

I'm a lightweight guy at 137; what are some good recommendations that won't have me blown all over the road?

American Classic:  They're not aero, but super light weight and reletively inexpensive.  I looked at a set a while back but was told to stay away from them because I'm too heavy at 175 lbs.  I ride Ksyrium SC SSL on both my road and tri bike.

I ran HED Alps (clincher) last year. 2006 model that are 55mm deep front and rear and never had any handling issues. Just bought some new HED stingers (tubulars) for this season and running 60mm front and 90mm year.

The alps are a really nice wheelset, easy to handle.... Posting mine this weekend

I just got a pair of Hed Jet 60s clinchers....much lighter than the Hed3s and less vulnerable to cross wind...I also wanted a spoke wheel...

Seb, you're welcome to borrow my HED3s for a couple of training rides if you like.

All it takes it a little practice.  I specifically try to take my disc/3 race setup out on windy training days so I know I'm ready for anything come race day.

I'm bummed that I haven't gotten to install or test my new wheel cover, so I probably won't race with it on Sunday.  How significant is the effect on a wheel at moderate winds.  (say 10mph?)  Your back wheel slides 1/2 an inch when it gusts, or you jump 6 inches to the side?  (oh, wait, I guess this is a hijack.  Sorry!)

If I had the $ I would get these:

As for now I have a Xlab Tri-spoke with a Rolf Vector 14 aero spoke 30mm front. If you have a wheel like the Rolf on the front you will not have the handling issues of having a tri-spoke or head on the front.
