Subject: Need some advice!!
I'm wanting to do the florida 70.3 this year in may, but i just started training for it about a week ago. Should I attempt it or look for something farther down the road. It's going to be my first long race. I've been training for a half marathon for about 10 weeks though and it's next month, so my running isn't an issue, I hope, But by cycleing and swimming need work. Is it feesable? Thanx for all the help!!

I would say it depends on your base. I am training for the IM CA 70.3 right now, 9 weeks left. I looked into Florida, and know 20 weeks would have been Jan 1 - so you have about 16 weeks. i would say do-able if you have a good base.

IMHO - If you are able to swim 1500/30 mins without a break and have biked at least 40 miles once it will be no problem. I have quickly built up my swims to over 3000 yds straight, definitely good for the HIM. My bike is suffering due to knee problem in Dec and WI winters preventing me from currently building upon long rides. The run I have slowly built and could survive.

It just comes down to your confidence in yourself and your abilities. I did not do anything over a sprint last year and longest ride was 40 miles back in August. But I feel confident I can finish respectibly

right on. Sounds like i can pull this off after all. I have a pretty good base as far as running. the 40 miles i do at least once a week, and in a week or 2 i should be at the 1500/30minutes. So I'm going to give it a go and see what happens. Thanx

Just be conservative, train smart, let your body dictate whether you should push through or not. If anything you can always do other races! Good luck and see you at FL 70.3!
