So I've been layed up for about 2 1/2 weeks with an illness. It started with a stomach virus then moved to a head cold. I love seeing my nephews, but not when their parting gift forces me to stay in bed for days at a time. I guess my big question is what's the best way for me to get back on track? I feel like I've lost alot of fitness and I've definetly lost the mental aspect I worked so hard for. It was such a downer not being able to ride for 30 mins after putting in hours a day of training the previous week. My first race of the season is St.A's. Any suggestions as far as getting back into a training regiment...and any words of encouragement? Thanks folks.

Stop posting.  Go run!

Seriously, just get out there and do something.  Tomorrow do something else.  Take it easy, but get yourself back into it and you'll be back to where you left off in no time.

Hey, you're offline! Good. Now keep on training. St. A's will be here before you know it.

i had the same thing...2 weeks out. start slow the first week. don't just right back into your routine, but cut back by about 25% time/distance/effort wise. see how that feels and ramp up from there. if you look at my logs, you can see i'm not where i should be yet, but i've slowly ramped up and while it hasn't been a completely enjoyable process, i'm finally starting to feel like myself again.

Well folks, I did it...i just slipped on the runners and hit the road. It felt so good to get out there. An easy 40mins did the trick, I got home and immediately started organizing a training schedule for the week. I do believe I'm back!! Oh, and by the way, all these posts come from the comfort of my office...although I do wish I could be training instead.

Good job getting back on the horse. Hopefully you'll find yourself stronger after giving your body a couple of weeks rest.

1- make sure you are very well hydrated, especially for morning sessions (if that applies to you)

2- mojo will come back from training, as others said: go ahead and do it

3- don,t forget fruits and veggies (+ lean meat) as you are most probably depleted of some micronutrient. No need to over analyze this, though, eating more and moe good stuff will be just fine.

4- a lot of people get down on themselves after illness but focus on what comes ahead
