TriAmerica Cleveland - TriathlonSprint

View Member's Race Log
Cleveland, Ohio

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 26m 23s
Overall Rank = 39/108
Age Group = 20-24 M
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Brief stretching and jogging. Race started 30 minutes earlier than advertised, so I was rushing.
Swim
  • 18m 30s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swallowed way too much water in the beginning. Considered giving up because I thought I was going to drown.

Switched to survival mode and just breaststroked comfortably for the rest of the swim. On the way back when I tried to do freestyle, I ended up slowing, so it was breaststroke all the way.
What would you do differently?:

Catch the waves better. Maybe use a wetsuit for buoyancy.
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

Stomach felt horrible from the swim. Legs heavy too. How do people transition in 1 minute?
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Bike
  • 42m 40s
  • 20 kms
  • 28.12 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed harder on the bike. I rode too comfortably because I thought the course was longer.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

I was in no hurry. I was finally about to start MY event: the run.
What would you do differently?:

Move quicker.
Run
  • 19m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

5th fastest overall run split. My stomach bothered me, but after 2 miles I felt fine. I couldn't perceive my exertion very well though.
What would you do differently?:

Run the first mile faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothin'

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swallowing nasty lake water. My stomach is happiest when completely empty.

Event comments:

Athletes didn't seem to gather after the race. It just seemed weird...a tent full of food and no one around...

I wish I could run like you. Sounds like the swim really hurt you. Good job.

Hey...this was the race I did too. I found it interesting that you noted the lack of comraderie after the race because I felt the same way. Im in my first year, but this was my eighth race and this was the first one where I didnt really met a bunch of people and talk after the event. I thought it was weird too. All my other races have been in NC and SC, so I thought maybe it was a regional thing or something. Even during the race, there wasn't as much encouragement among racers that I've been used to. in all the races I've done here.
