I am considering hanging my bikes from a hook and the front rim. Does anyone know if this is bad for the rims?

If you are careful to not hit a spoke it would be OK. Many people store their bikes that way. The better way in my opinion is to get one of the 2 bike over/under type of wall racks, which uses the frame to hold the bike.

Why in the world would you want to store your bike anyways? You should just keep it handy and ride it every day...

Just don't do it with carbon rims. Your bike rims handle FAR more stress when riding it than they will ever see in storage on a hook. You're fine.
