I'm open for either date.

As for the Minneapolis Lakes, they're "open" for swimming when the ice is gone - today if you really like. Most beaches don't have a lifeguard so its SAYOW - Swim At Your Own Risk.

I'm not sure whether I'm looking more forward to the practice or to the post race beer and brats.

Either day is fine for me. I'd rather the earlier date since Albert Lea is on May 20.

So far of the people who have responded to me or the thread we have 3 people who can NOT make the 13th.  Nobody has said they can't make Monday May 28th, Memorial day, although some would prefer the 13th over the 28th.  How about we give it through Wednesday to get anymore feedback that may come in.  I pm'ed about 24 people to let them know what was up.  If things stay the way they are lets schedule it for the 28th.  I'm with Matchman on his beer and brats statement.  Plenty of reason to finish

The 13th would work for me and I agree that Memorial weekend is getting close to race season. I'm racing Buff the next weekend, so I would prefer the 13th, plus I'm out of town on Memorial weekend.

The lakes is a great place for a mock. The water should be clear, great place for a bike and an easy run.

I say 13th!

The 28th works for us - this includes me, my husband Jeff, and probably (maybe) our son (11) "racing," with our daughter (8) part of the kid crew...

YES, I am converting the family (without much arm twisting, I might add!)  Both our kids want to race this summer and while they will do kid tris, our almost 11 year old is ready for some shorter sprint races, once he gets some time in the saddle on the road bike he is inheriting from me.  There is no question he will beat me out of the water and depending on what his legs are like off the bike, he may beat me on the run...BUT (for now), I hold the bike! (sorry, little divergence there).

Most likely out for May 13th (planned cabin weekend to put in the dock)

In for May 28th

I think a lot of us are racing in Buffalo the first weekend in June, so perhaps if it's the 28th our mock tri could be pretty short with emphasis on practicing transitions...? Just a thought.

First, BGT - Great job on the PR!

Second, is the 28th the mandatory date? Don't know if this matters to anyone either way, but would the Saturday or Sunday be possible too? Advantage would be that some restaurants would actually be open for beer and some kind of food, so no one has to worry about triathloning AND getting food together. Just some thoughts...

As far as this conflicting with tapering periods, etc., it doesn't need to be a race. Could we just go through the motions for the fun and learning aspect? The point is more transitions and getting used to new tools, etc., right? So, don't push the s/b/r and hurry through transitions. Unless someone's doing an Ironman, I think it wouldn't be too tiring. Or am I way off on the whole point here? I mean, I love to race as much as the next gal. But I am looking at this more for the process.

Keep coming with the dates, would like to set the date by tommorow.  I agree with you about the pace Emily, doesn't have to be an all out race.  I think were just all looking to meet each other and have a good work-out.  I'll be doing the Apple duathlon on the 26th so if we do have it on the 28th I'll be going slower than normal.

Sat & Sun of Memorial Day weekend do NOT work for us.

If we are intent on gathering after the event for a post-event event, AND people want to travel west a bit, I could put together a nice little course out here in Maple Grove and host the after-event event... (assuming we're on for the 28th).  We'll go wherever the group decides, but I thought I'd toss it in as an option.

I don't think I'll be up for one on May 13th, I'll be coming back from a week long conference and will be wiped out. But I'll try!

Mark Your Calendars!!!

The results of everybody responding are in.  6 people thought the 13th would be out or very difficult and only 2 were out for the 28th.

So, here we go.  The first (and hopefully not last) spring mock tri will be held on May 28th.  I hope I am not stepping on anyones toes, but I thought this was a really good idea Autumn had and I figured we needed to come up with a date.  I'll start up another thread for this because it seems this one has become very loooong.  Someone had mentioned doing it on the Saturday or Sunday before Memorial day, but a few others had conflicts with that, so lets just run it on Monday May 28th aka Memorial Day.  Hopefully we can get a great turn-out, I had about 15 replies saying the date would work for them.  I was thinking doing it somewhat early so people still have the rest of the day, but not too early because people do like to sleep in.  Maybe 9:00 a.m. A few people mentioned places to do it, I really liked the metro area lakes for the proximity to everyone.  Anybody want to take charge of figuring out a place?  Others have said they have a s.o. that could help with watching things and what not so I think we should be safe.  We'll work things out in the next couple weeks or so.  Once again I hope everyone can make it. Thanks for all the responses.

I may be up at a friends cabin Sun/Mon, but if I am not, I will definately do this.  But similar to MNDiver, I will be doing the Apple Du on Sat, so I may be a little slower than normal.

Thanks for setting this up Autumn/MNDiver

Sounds great! I can't wait and yet am a little bit scared about getting into the lake...

Thanks for your offer to host a little party, Kris.

Did we want to do that? Or go with the Minneapolis lakes area and find a place for brunch afterwards in the area, for those who can stay?

If we want to stick with Minneapolis, I would love to plan the course and meeting area. I will scout it out.

Both Emily and Matchman have agreed to do some scouting and setting up of areas for the tri.  Could you two maybe get together and figure it out?  Matchman was talking about Lake Calhoun area being great.  I think Mpls area would be best as a central location, although really appreciate Kris offering up her place.  I'm going to start a new thread where we can start to plan and organize a little more. Thanks again Emily and Matchman.

This sounds great!  Heck, it might just be so great that we'll have to go on tour and have these little events all over.  I haven't been around at events much these last few months (due to my swimmers' schedule controlling life!) so I'm excited to see everyone and meet those of you I only know virtually!
