Swim
  • 14m 33s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tried to get a good lead out on the swim. The 1st 100m was just like swimming with a bunch of spawning salmon. I had some form develop until the 200m bouy where a number of us grouped together and slowed down. Form and breathing didn't get to normal pace again until the last bouy and the home stretch where I was able to get a good draft from the person in front of me and I felt I finished well enough.
(Tony said he was going to draft off me but as I came out of the water his wife said he had just beat me out of the lake, Oh well I'll catch him on the bike)
What would you do differently?:

This was my first open water race. My last 100 yards I swam pretty well. I would try to duplicate that leg of this race on my next.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

I had a good transition. Everything went better than planned.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 40m 26s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.81 mile/hr
Comments:

My timed pace was slower than I though it was. I lost track of how many bikers I passed. I was overtaked about 4 times but quickly retook my competition. At the course end I was not passed by anyone. This was my best leg of the race. The hills were very similar to traing conditions. At the course end we had to slow for emergency vehicles tending to a fallen rider.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I was pleased with my race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

It would have been a good transition, but I got turned around and tried to run out the bike exit. I ended up running back and forth across the transition area before I started the run.
What would you do differently?:

remember what way to go.
Run
  • 29m 39s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 56s  min/km
Comments:

I had a slower run than what I wanted. It took me longer to get over the brick than in training.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the finish area and enjoyed the great feeling.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My slow run and swim

Event comments:

My goal was to beat 1hr 30min. I did it in 1hr 29min 39sec. It felt great to race, and am looking forward to more races and little improvements

Way to go! 21 sec to spare... maybe you should have stopped to do the king of the parade wave to the crowds!

Congrats on your race!
