Age Group Rank = 2/15
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:00am, hung from Inversion bar for 10 minutes to loosen back and performed a set of inverted situps to assist the blood flow.
Check pre-race list to make sure I have everything.
Breakfast: Gatorade, 1 waffle w/ PB& Honey, followed up with water.
Light stretch before heading to race.
Once at race site, prepped transition area.
Event warmup:

Arrived at race site at 6:20, first heat went off at 7:00am. I was in Heat 2, 7:10.

Ran a 1-mile warm-up at 8 min pace, stretched and hydrated before start. Made sure to stay relaxed.
Swim
  • 10m 10s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Under trained swim significantly. Swim was last event in sprint, and did not feel fully prepared for swim.
What would you do differently?:

Improve training in the swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 20m 7s
  • 6 miles
  • 17.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike event was good for first triathlon. Only put 60 miles on bike before race. Need to improve, but that will come as I put more miles on bike. I was caught by 2 racers, they were experienced triathletes, but it was good b/c it helped my pace.
What would you do differently?:

Continue training and don't come into the T2 as hard as I did.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

If need a little extra time to catch breath, take it.
What would you do differently?:

Improve pace coming into T2.
Run
  • 21m 28s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt great during run, finished second in my heat. Pace was around 7:15/mile and I could have gone harder.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, but know what to expect with more upcoming tris.
Post race
Warm down:

Hydrate, replenish calories and stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training on bike and swim.

Event comments:

Overall, I am very pleased with my effort. It turns out I finished 53rd overall and took 2nd place in my age division (25-29). Very excited about the results. Could have been better, but I feel I did not train as well as I should have.
Transitions went smooth, I'm glad to have my first race trans out of the way.

I've always wanted to do a backward tri....

I don't see an official at the end of your swim taking times -- did you have to run back out to the transition area for the Finish Line?

The second pic shows me finishing the swim and then I had to run a few more yards straight out to exit the Natatrorium where the finish line was. The reverse was pretty cool, it definetly changes how you pace. My strength is running and weakness is the swim, so to swim last was tough.
