Champion  5529    Nashville, TN |  Subject: Why is this news?I understand that some people are completely mesmerized and fascinated by celebrities, but why is this even news? Does anyone really care what an entertainer pays for a meal? And why do media outlets feel the need to report it....
LONDON, England (AP) -- Kanye West is not eating any $3,900 curry, his management said Tuesday.The British Raj restaurant had said that a music promotion company was paying that princely sum, plus travel and accommodation for the restaurant's head chef, to send a fully cooked Indian meal from Wales to New York for a meeting with West and seven guests. But the music star's publicist said West wasn't planning to be in New York during the week, and that the food wasn't for him. "There is no meeting in New York. There never has been," spokesman Gabe Tesoriero said Tuesday. He called the story "patently false." The restaurant confirmed Tuesday that the food was en route to New York by plane. It said the bill was being footed by a promotion company called Raw Soul. Several phone messages left for Raw Soul were not returned. Only one thing seemed certain: Someone in New York was going to eat well this week.

Because American culture is so celebrity obsessed, and will gobble up with great vigor even the must mundane comings and goings of the biggest D-list has-been "celebrity" (not that Kanye is a has been. Quite the opposite, rather). This is news for the same reason that all this Anna Nicole Smith garbage is "news." Why is the ANS coverage any more in-depth than "Anna Nicole Smith died today." |

I mean, he's not a top of the list, bona fide big name, but I'd give him a bigger nod than most of our "celebs." |

At least ANS had mystery and intrigue...there was a death, a bunch of nutty people, a trial and no answers. The family/friends were causing the uproar. That is entertainment. What Kanye West orders for dinner is inconsequintial. Who decides that this is news and then reports it. |

True, in that the circumstances surrounding ANS are more interesting than Kanye's non-existant dinner. But either way, I can't figure why people would care in the first place. |
