Eventually there will be a group swimming up at Falls Lake out of Wake Forest. Don't think anyone's doing that just yet.

If you want something earlier and think its worth the drive, the Lake Norman YMCA hosts open water swims.  The first one is April 21 and I believe they have several throughout the year.  Its a nominal fee and they set up a 750m course with boats, lifeguards, etc.  You can do 1 or 2 laps.

Hmmmm... they keep changing their website.... last I saw it was Apr 21, but now it says May 12. 

I'll keep checking and let you know if I see anything.
