Any suggestions for breaking the chain?? The chain of Golden arches???

uhm....just don't go there.  I have not been in a McD's in over a decade. I usually don't eat food that come out of bags and boxes, which means no processed foods, only the real thing.  So I get to eat a ton and the weight is coming off

I have an omlette made with Breakfree Eggs (they come in a 250 ml carton - I use half a carton for the omlette) with a slice of processed cheese, half a diced yellow onion and a sliced tomatoe. Total calorie count is about 200. Some days I will add a slice of flaxseed rye bread with 140 calories. Other mornings it is just a banana and a slice of flaxseed rye, or a banana and a granny smith apple. Oh I almost forgot - 4 cups of Red Rose tea.

MMMMM... a Diet Coke drip. That would be..... I'm not sure what that would be... or how to describe it to you water drinking, flaxseed, whole food eating, veggie lovin' fruit-heads.... ha ha.

Just kidding, I aspire to your eating habits. Baby steps.

Do you all remember the other day when I had a hankerin' for a Big Mac? I resisted!

And so is tri training.... (provided she eats moderate amounts). Cals in - Cals out....

I train as much as 18 hours per week, and I guarantee you that if I ate like that I would weigh 250 within a year.

Metabolism?

If she eats McD's for breakfast and then eats well and lower on cals for the rest of the day, she's fine. For instance, if the morning greaseball is 700 cals, she's still got at least 1300 cals left for the day (assuming she's not tiny). Not to say it's particularly healthy or a great idea, just that one need not get fat just because they like McD's.

Now is that up or down from what you weigh now???

My weight has been pretty contstant for most of my life, give or take 15 lbs... My life has also always included alot of restaurant food, fast food, canned food... etc etc... My mother was not much of a cook, my father ate whatever she put in front of him, and I was pretty much raised on Wendy's, McD, Corned Beef hash (with Ketchup!), etc etc... I think it's just what I'm accustomed to, and what my body is used to burning.

I'm a mesomorph.... so I've got big leg muscles and arm muscles, I'm 5'9" and when I'm fat, I'm about 170... Mostly muscle, though... When I'm thin, I'm about 161-162ish. A solid size 10.

What I'm wondering is if maybe I'm just accustomed to this diet, and that's why it's hard to break free entirely of it??? I've been trying to eat fresher, going for Subway or salads instead of the hard core fast food burger stuff... and that's helped. As far as breakfast, though... I don't find ANYTHING as satisfying as an Egg McMuffin.

Fast Food Nation is a great book. So are there any vegan triathletes out there with any recommendations on putting away enough calories? For me to put down about 3200 a day, I have to spend half the day eating and I feel like a walrus. Eating comfortably for me always ends up being only around 2000-2300 calories.

What I've found....each day I went without fast food, each day I craved it less.

Eventually I got to where I had an attitude much like how bear was talking - I get revolted at seeing McDonalds. The longer you go, the easier it is.

It's tough though, isn't it???
Do you ever go back? For a special treat?

What do you eat instead? I don't find anything to be quite as satisfying as McDonalds in the AM. Although tomorrow I will try a banana. Or maybe a couple of bananas.

really and truly I was a sausage egg biscuit freak. I could eat them every day for the rest of my life.

To stop, the biggest thing for me was to eat at home, and not skimp on breakfast. I still cook scrambled eggs every morning...but just two and no extras, and a couple pieces of bread.

The other thing is those Post selects cereals. They fill you up really well.

I find that if I am full when I drive by McD's in the morning, I am less apt to turn in.

Eventually I stopped wanting to go. Just hold out.....every day you hold out will make the next day easier...I promise....I've been there

Have a self-imposed lent and just give it up for 40 days. From my Catholic days, I know that if you give up anything for 40 days, you just don't need it anymore (until you go for that special treat crap). I'm going to have to have an ice cream lent soon.

I don't find ANYTHING as satisfying as an Egg McMuffin.

What's really so bad about an Egg McMuffin? Just by itself, it's really not that bad- english muffin, egg, cheese, and ham (but I take that off). I've even made them at home with a little better cheese and whole wheat muffins. An Egg McMuffin is about the ONLY thing I will eat from McDonalds. After a long, hard workout, when I have no recovery food available, that has a fairly decent amount of carbs and protein. I certainly wouldn't want to have that daily, but I don't really see anything that is that nutritionally wrong with it.

Ok, here's something I never thought I would say - McDonalds actually has a cool website. At least the nutrition portion of it. You can customize a menu option and see the nutritional value of it that way.
My Egg McMuffin without the ham (canadian bacon) has 280 calories, 12g of fat (yes, that's high at 38 % of calories from fat), 28 grams of carbs, 2 grams fiber, and 14 grams of protein. Not great, but not as bad as a lot of other things out there...

I have cereal (Kashi Go Lean) with blueberries, bananas or strawberries, and probably 3 cups of coffee (which is my vice in the AM).

To be honest, I can't even stand the smell of those fast food places.  I drive/ride by them really fassssttttttt!!!!!!!

My breakfasts are pretty planned-out, because I CAN NOT think in the mornings. They go more or less like this.

Sunday: fruit smoothie
Monday: rolled oats, microwaved with frozen blackberries from the garden
Tuesday: Kashi Go_lean and skim milk
Wednesday: grits and whole grain toast
Thursday: scrambled eggs and whatever vegetables I can find
Friday: coffee and a muffin (breakfast meeting)
Saturday: 2 small whole grain pancakes and fresh fruit

It's posted on the refrigerator. I just blindly reach for the posted things. And I do have 2 small cups of coffee every morning.
