Member 42 | Subject: RE: Crystal Lake OWS in July In regards to startingtotri's question about having to put credit card info in the profile: I was also weary of putting in my info in my profile, especially on a website that looked like it was going to fall apart. You could sign up through this link which I've used in the past to sign up for races. This way, you won't be connected to crystal lake parks. https://www.signmeup.com/site/reg/register.aspx?fid=6Y2VJK7 btw, I plan on being there with wife and baby... will there be a BT banner that I should look for? |

Well you can always make one and then there will be one. I wonder how many of those out there will be triathletes. I would bet almost all done atleast 1 tri. Even if your a hardcore swimmer its too hard to find too many swim only events. Ironicly I was going to try to do about 4 or 5 swim only events and I might only do one. Man I am getting really close to tell them they will need someone else out there. I really want to do the race. |

If so perhaps they can offer up some advice on where to meet. I'm going to take the train out there on Friday evening. Looking for hotels now. I really need to get a car out here! PM Sent. As far as where to meet, here's what we'll do. When you park you walk across the road up to the gate and enter through the main building. That is where you register. When you walk out the other side you will be facing the lake, on the beach. GO RIGHT!!!! I'll grab a couple of picnic tables and I'll bring some big stupid balloon I'll tie to a table so all y'all can see it. Most people just stay right there in front of the building to gab/socialize/meet up I know Whizzz and others are thinking about a ride afterwards. Just north of town is Bull Valley which is a fun and slightly hilly area to ride around. I'm skipping the bike ride but planning on running from my house to the race so if anyone wants to come early and park by my house and go for a 5 or so mi. run feel free to join me. It's only 2.5 mi to the lake so it could be a shorter or longer run. Any pace welcome. At this point I don't know if I'd run back home or just hop a ride. I think Whizzzz and Dumpster and Schmize and his family are coming over after the bike ride for BBQ and general hanging outedness (read: beer). I'm not exactly "throwing a party" but I'll welcome anyone else who wants to come over after the swim or bike ride. Just let me know so I can warn my wife! Bring beverages and grillables if you like. |

Wetsuits are optional. Wetsuits make you go really fast. Plus noting like seeing a girl in a wetsuit . How far are you going? are you going to have a suit for SOR? |

Member 42 | Subject: RE: Crystal Lake OWS in July i witnessed technique being more important than a wetsuit in the swim. I did my first tri this past weekend where the first guy out of the water had nothing but his trishorts on. Everyone else had a wetsuit... AND the water was a frigid 60 degrees. With that said... I'll have my wetsuit @ the OWS and @ SOR. My technique is definitely a work in progress. |

Though I doubt any pro will not wear a suit when they can unless of course they want to be cool in a race. many of the ows races I seem to promote non wetsuits so it helps me out. |

WEll I hope they have something as well There are boats out there, you'll be fine. Wetsuits are optional. It's plenty warm enough to go without. I was fine last year in my sleeveless. I would think a full suit would get pretty warm. I wore mine last year mainly for the security because I had never swam 2 mi. before. Everything worked out fine although I suggest NOT falling to the beach and rolling around because it takes forever to get the sand out of the wetsuit. OTOH it was my daughter tackling me so how could I resist?

Elite 2493 Chicago, IL | Subject: RE: Crystal Lake OWS in July sorry to report, but I won't be able to make the OWS. I had my calcium checked today, post-op, and the nurse looked at my incision and said it's healing just fine. I asked her about my OWS this coming weekend, and she said "are you kidding!! Do you know what they would have to do to your neck if that incision got infected. The answer is absolutely not"!!, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! So I am out for a while with swimming... which includes my HIM. Totally bummed Have a good time everyone. I'm currently emailing the race director for SoR to transfer my entry to next year stupid tumor |
