Pre-race routine:

ate breakfast in the parking lot, found Donna, Max, Sarah, and May.
Event warmup:

did a bit of swimming just to loosen up a bit. Oh, and a short run back to the transition area because I left my swim cap there.

Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

how strange seeing all those bikes still there when I got to the transition area! It's usually empty when I get there, great being in the first wave!

Run
  • 1h 29m 9s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 14m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I suck! What else can I say? The first water stop had no water when I got there, and the fourth stop was gone when I got there too. Thought I was gonna die. Did a lot of walking the first few miles. Come to think of it, I did a lot of walking thru the whole thing.
What would you do differently?:

borrow some faster legs??
Post race
Warm down:

Donna and my son were waiting for me at the finish line and I was fried. Donna had gotten an iced coffee for me on her way back from the water bottle exchange where they had worked. I was one happy tri peep! Matt kept bringing me cold sponges and I was fine within a few minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat and (as usual) my FAT A**!

Event comments:

can't be running out of water on such a hot day. Other than that, it was great. Live music, chicken BBQ, and great t-shirts.

Ya done good Mom....it was a blazing hot day and I'm sure that caused a lot of problems with people not pacing themselves well enough.  I applaud anyone who finished, whether you had to walk or not during the run.  Now we can go kick butt next year!  Woo hoo!

wahoo ellen!! You should revel in the day, great weather, great friends, and a great race. That is what it is all about!
Awesome...
Just a little anecdote.. In this race I was rounding a corner on the bike about a mile from the finish and there were no other participants in site, I said to a race volunteer, 'HEY NO ONE IS AROUND, I MUST BE WINNING", the volunteer said "WELL...AH....NOT QUITE...BUT IF YOU FINISH YOU ARE THE WINNER", so true.

Thanks again for being there before and after, your hubby gave me a great high five which kicked me up a notch near the end, cool. Great time, had to bug out early with my ride.
great time, glen

Yahoo, great race Ellen!!!  Listen, you should not be comiserating about your run.  It was !@#$$ hot on Sunday, plus you have a crap knee to boot.  Remember to ice it by the way.   Wish I was there, except for the swim in the mud puddle!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Evelyn

P.S.  Nice picture of you three
