I went bike shopping on my trip down island and found a used Giant OCR One, 2002 model, owner is asking $900 CAN. Perfect fit and I liked the ride.

Other choice is a 2004 Cannondale R800, new, for $1700. CAN Right size for me as well, and the ride was great.

Now, this is my very first road bike purchase and I know next to nothing about road bikes other than they will go ALOT faster than my Nishiki Colorado Mtn bike.

Any and all comments will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Darlene

are these your only choices?  I think they are probably both good bikes.....

from what I see on their respective websites, the Giant is a triple and the C'dale is a double.  Is that what you rode?  That could factor into which one you get.

You are looking at two very good road bikes that are very similarly equipped. You will have to decide which one you like best. The OCR1 is much less expensive than the Cannondale, which leaves plenty of change to buy those little extras like aero bars, a tri forward seatpost, good cycling shoes, a helmet, a tri suit, etc. At least that is something to consider.

Not my money to spend but if I were in your situation and the OCR was in good shape I would look in that direction. 2002 model probably doesn't have 5000K on it yet so aside from a clean and grease (maybe a new chain) you are looking at a decent bike that will last you a few years. Then again I thought Ebeneezer Scrouge was a spendthrift before Christmas Eve so...

Which has the better components? What about weight? How serious are you about riding and what can you afford? If you aren't that serious stick with the lower priced Giant. If serious and can afford it buy the Cannondale. It probably has better components, is lighter and it is NEW. Good luck.

Thanks for all your input. I've decided to spend the bucks and go with the Cannondale R800. I have two stores on the island here that stock it, so once I decide on the extras I want now, I hope to get the best price possible.
Hopefully by the middle of month I will be the proud new owner of a Cannondale!!!

Thanks again,
Darlene
