Subject: can i breath now?
little confused on when to breath while swimming. for the past few months i have been brething on my right side every stroke, on a whim i decided to try breathing on my left side every stroke and felt like i was swimming easier. after e few laps of this i attempted to breath every third stroke and that was great but it felt like my lungs were going to burst. is there any right way to breath, or is it more personal?

For now do what ever you feel comfortable with, As your body adjusts you will be able to do more strokes without breathing. Also it is better if you get used to breathing on boths sides.

I agree, do what ever is comfortable right now. The other will come later.

Is it possible you were holding your breath while breathing every third stroke? If you're used to breathing every two, you may have been concentrating more on alternating sides than on constant exhaling while underwater. Breathing every third stroke does take practice.
