Pre-race routine:

Find the place. Get set up. Look around and be intimidated by the serious looking racers!
Event warmup:

3 mile bike ride.
Swim
  • 20m
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

I am a terrible swimmer. I thought I could do a modified crawl (no face in the water) because I had practiced it in the ocean. But I had not accounted for the lack of bouoyancy in the lake water. I felt a little panicked by the lake water. I did crawl, backstroke and side stroke. I got very offcourse while doing the backstroke. But I did it!
What would you do differently?:

learn to swim
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

They didn't provide separate timing for events or transitions. I am estimating it took about 3 minutes but I could be way off.
Bike
  • 1h 40m
  • 27 miles
  • 16.20 mile/hr
Comments:

I hit 44.4mph as my max speed! This was a very hilly course. At one point we came screaming down a hill, had to stop to cross an unpaved section of road work then go up another hill on the other side. That was a killer.

My computer stopped working at mile 20.
What would you do differently?:

I just got my new bike a few days before the event, so I hadn't ridden it over 10 miles. At about mile 12, my back started to cramp. I needed more time in the saddle to learn about road bikes.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Run
  • 1h 03m
  • 6.6 miles
  • 09m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't expect it to be such a hilly run. It seemed like all hills! I was tired and didn't have it in me to sprint at the end.
What would you do differently?:

More hill training, longer runs. My longest run to date was 6 miles, and this race was 6.6. Because I had never run so far, I held back a little on the run, but I don't think I could have held a much faster pace.
Post race
Warm down:

dunked in the lake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training.

Event comments:

This is only my second triathlon, so I really cannot compare to much else. It was fun, but very hard.

You did awesome! Your run-time is excellent for a 7-mile hilly course!

hey Maureen, 3:07 is a great time for an Olympic race!  You'll feel much more confident if you work on that swimming over the winter.  Is there a Master's group near you?  Even still, your times are great!

Thanks for the encouragement. I was sore for a few days. But I am already thinking - can I break 3 hours next year? How can I shave 7 minutes from my time?

For those interested, here is a link to the local newspaper article. And if you click on the camera icon, and go to picture 3, there is a picture of me looking a little tense before the race started.

Even my husband commented that there was a lack of curves on most of the female competitors! I definitely have curves!
