No bump.  just general pain  Ihave been told it is a calf strain caused by the fact that I do not strech

The lack of stretching could contirbute to the pain.  I have a hunch it maybe due to your running form as well.  You might be overstriding a bit due to the increase in speed.   The soft tissue behind your knee is overstressed when your body weight comes down on a lower leg that's too far forward (overstriding) .  You can avoid possibly this if your lower leg comes down directly beneath you to absorb your body's weight.

I had the same thing! I would get up in the morning, or after sitting for a bit, and it would feel like the back of my knee was a rubber band that was being pulled too far. After three weeks I went to a doctor who told me what I'd pretty much figured out: overuse injury. I stretched more often, used ice and heat, went to a massage therapist, and went easy for a while - which was very hard now that the weather is getting nicer.

I'd suggest just going easy and working things back into normal carefully. (A trip to the doctor wouldn't hurt if you feel any sharp pain or weakness in the leg).

Hope things return to normal soon!
