Subject: Why are my arms so tired?
I used to be able to lift all kinds of weights and do plenty of reps (last year). I started training for triathlon in December and in the past few months started to do a bit of weight training again. The problem is, my arms start burning, feel weak and are shaky much more quickly than ever before.

Is this fatigue built up from the other training I'm doing -- and I should ease up? (I thought I already wasn't doing it as much as I should.)

Or

Is this that I let it go too long and now am wimpy and should do more weight training?

Probably need a little more info.  What sort of weights in comparison to what you were doing last year?  Were you just weight training last year and no cardio?  Have you been doing a lot of swimming (compared to what you used to)?  Are you doing high reps with low weight or high weight with low reps?  Taken any rest days lately?

Edit: It asppears in your log that you've had three days of swimming in the last few days, and some solid running and cycling.  So it could just be a little bit of fatigue setting in maybe?

Tri training does almost nothing for arm strength.   YOu probably just have to start over.   You can lose a lot of stregth over a few months of not lifting.   Plus, if you have lost a lot of weight, 1/3 of it is probably muscle.

If I swim, I don't lift weights that day (upper body) because swimming will overload my arms. I also use paddles for some laps which can help build arm strength. And also, if I'm not breathing in a relaxed way, all my muscles get fatigued faster when working out. Sleep too...if really over tired, forgetaboutit!

I haven't done any swimming since I was 12 -- so swimming was all new.

I used to use decent weights with generally 3 sets of 12 reps. Now, I'm tired after 1! And can barely get through the second set sometimes. My cardio was biking and some Taekwon Do.

I am doing a circuit now, which has a range of motion set up individually for each machine. Before it was just free weights...

Oh, and P.S., I haven't lost ANY weight. (grumble, grumble)
