I am quite new to the area, just looking for a place I can perhaps drive to after work and get some practice OWS's in before August.

Boerne Lake and Canyon Lake are the places to go.

The local masters swim team will have some group OW swims in Boerne Lake during the summer (first this Saturday).  I don't know if you have to be part of the team to participate. http://www.mastersofsouthtexas.org

Thanks muchly. I'll drive out there this weekend. The ride itself also looks nice (on the linked map) and isn't that much further to go than my normal rides.
