First tri in less than two weeks. Olympic distance. Training for only about two months (if that). Training certainly could have been better, but my endurance is getting there. Last weekend ran almost 7.5 miles for the first time ever. Missing too many swim workouts, but hit 1700 yards in less than 40 minutes last week with rest in between sets so I'm pleased with that. I've only done bricks at the gym so I'm worried about the actual race transitions. I WILL go to the pool tomorrow morning before work. No more excuses on this. I will finish...hopefully somewhere close to my goal. We'll see... Anyway, just kind of ranting...

Being nervous is a good thing as far as I am concerned.  Being nervous just means that you want to do well.  Good luck in your race.

I think nerves are part of tri's. You'll do great O!

Important thing: don't dwell on the training you missed...concentrate on your good training days during the race!!!

Good luck!

We have all done races.  But even the pros get nervous and they have done hundreds.  It is part of the allure, you need the excitement, but it will go away right when the swim starts.  If the race is in two weeks make sure to taper next week.  It is better to undertranined and rested that overtrained and tired.

As for getting up, you need to do the morning of the race so get your body used to it as soon as possible, otherwise you are going to have a hard time the morning off.  Speaking from experience.

i was nervous up until i got my transition area set up at my first race. once you get going, you'll be so busy focusing on what you're doing to be nervous. wishing you speed and a great experience.

Good luck on your race!! Adrenaline (sp?) will take over soon enough race morning. I only trained 2 days in the two weeks before my second sprint tri this summer, ( do to a very hectic and exhausting cooking job I took on at a sport fishing camp). I was tired going into the race, but finished 3 minutes faster than my first race that I was fully prepared for. So being a little under-trained will not hurt. Get lots of rest a few days before the race and you will do great!!

Excellent....The key to the nerves is to talk to people at the event, mostly a very very friendly bunch and also smile and enjoy the day!!! Just pace yourself to finish and feel good at the end. Oh and also remember to thank the volunteers as you see them, they really can make your day .

Sounds to me like you're doing really well...I agree with Autumn, once you get there and get your transition area set up, then finally get in the water...you'll be focused on what you need to do.  THEN you can enjoy it!  You'll be great!

Owen,
Try to get a real brick in even it's just a short run after the bike. It will give you confidence for transition plus your legs will remember it, there is nothing like the real thing. You'll do fine! Good luck, Mark

Not sure that I'm qualified as I'm not in good shape and just did one sprint tri the last weekend, but I'll pass on what I experienced.

I'd done a couple of 'semi-bricks' at the gym, they helped but were not like the real thing, theres nothing like a real bike pushed consistantly hard for longer than you're used to to hit the real muscles.

I got off my bike, and had all kind of wierd muscles sore/exhausted or just jumpy.

I was aiming for 50% jog but only managed to jog 10% and walked the rest, my muscles just wouldn't run.

It did give me a good one year goal though, do a sprint tri and manage to jog the whole 5k.
