OK, this may be a stupid question but oh well. With the bad weather and the Sunday bike check in, will the bikes be ok outside in the rain or should you take something to at least cover up the components?

I'm thinking about bringing some garbage bags and duct tape.  I don't mind the bike getting a bit wet now and again, but I don't want it sitting in the rain overnight.

There is not much to gain from covering your bike.  Remember, you are going to jump on it wet after the swim.  However, I do cover my race wheels overnight with garbage bags.

Yeah, I never quite understood people covering up their seats or aerobars. Hello! You're dripping wet and you're going to be sitting and leaning on them. Duh. Derailleurs I can maybe see.

Well, I'm covering my bike seat with a huge trashbag. Then in the morning, I am taking the trashbag off and using it under my towel for my transition area.

The transition area is in grass... and it will be muddy.

Also, there will probably be mud to run through out of transition. For me... with SpeedPlays, this is a living hell.

I might also recommend covering the steerer.  My bike got drenched on the way down to Lone Star.  Later, I had the spacers and stem off when I was getting refit, and we found early signs of corrosion.  Fortunately, there was no damage, so we cleaned it off.

I wouldn't worry about covering anything during the race, but overnight I would put bags over the exposed joints - steerer, seat tube, etc.

i agree with Davidb, also some seat posts are hollow on top and water can get down into your tubes, most bikes have drainage holes. For me seat and steering covered overnight.
