What can I do to prevent toe cramps? They almost, always happen when I swim. Plus, they tend to happened in one foot. I sometime stop and stretch my leg and toes but then they come back.
I just turned 50 but I am in pretty good shape and very active.
try not to point your toes too much when swimming. I get this more towards the end of a long swim if i'm really concentrating on streamlining off the push-off--which means pointing my toes.
I use to get the toe cramps, also. Like Goobergirl, it would happen during pushoff. No longer happens. It may have something to do with the amount of bananas I eat, no kidding. Or, just as well, that my smaller foot muscles are toned/tuned to the training.
I actually do not swim in pools. All my swimming is open water swims on my lake. In my last swim, I didn't really get cramps until the end of the swim. And, only in my right foot. The two smallest toes. I eventually had to stop and grab them and stretch them out. Resume swimming with some minor cramping. Weird hugh...
I think I am going to make a more concsious attempt to do some stretching before swimming and seeing if this makes a difference.
