Event warmup:

None really. Arrived later than I had planned, checked in, and May finally found me. We chatted and headed to the water.

Comments:

was great until the last 3 miles when my chain broke. I figure that chewed up at least 20 minutes. I was having a great ride up until that point.
What would you do differently?:

not have the chain break??
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

was not in much of a hurry after the bike fiasco. I wanted to get tot he run since I had been owrking on it for the last 4 weeks.
Run
  • 1h 10m 28s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 11m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

did my 7/1 run/walk combo, much better than at Cranberry where I could barely run after getting off the bike. I was surprised to see that there were people behind me, I thought my break-down ensured me of my first DFL.
Post race
Warm down:

May and my family were waiting and cheering when I got to the finish line, how cool! My guys brought my stuff back to the car while May and I got some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mechanical trouble on the bike

Event comments:

Brian from Lakes Region Cyclery is my new hero. Fixed my bike so I could finish the race. I'll be visiting him for a fitting over the winter. I was happy that May found me early in the day and we had lots of fun together.

Ellen,
Even before you told me, I know for a fact that you'd have gotten that bike back to T2 no matter what it took! You were a Marine for goodness sake! Hoo Rah LOL! Even if you had to make it a 9 mile run instead of the 10K! Luckily Brian found you though....good luck getting your bike repaired in satisfactory working condition!

Each time I see Mike and your son, it warms my heart! I hugged your poor son leaving, and he was like, "eeewwwwww!" (And I thought teenaged boys were receptive to sweaty women pressing their bodies up against them - I stand corrected!)

Racing is fun, and buddies like you make it all the more enjoyable. You had a great 2004 season and finished it strong and healthy after what sounds like a rash of injuries and operations from last/previous years. You're a great inspiration.

Now, how are your Red Sox coming along.................?

May

Go, ellen!! Tough course, decent time. Too bad about the bike but all the new stuff has bugs to work out, glad you didn't get hurt. I will have to look into endorfun's events next year. The first one seems a bit on the chilly side for me.

Great race Ellen.  Without the bike problem, it sure looks like you were lots faster than Cranberry.  I'm sure the cooler temps and lower humidity helped, but it seems like your running is getting better.  Now all you need is a winter to rest, don't mess up the knee while skiing, and lets go attack Hyannis next Spring!
