Total Time = 1h 41m 46s
Overall Rank = 183/300
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 9/14
Pre-race routine:

had people over the night before - went to bed by 10 anyway. Derreck made some kickass asian noddles with shrimp. alternated wine with gatorade and water. woke up too early and nervous - had coffee and an egg sandwich and a gatorade. Met my friends Ken (a 2 time IM) and Jenni - we had been visiting the gravel pit and biking on weekends together. Met up with all the BT-ers too! Joe lubed me up... ooolala. I was scatterbrained setting up my tranzition zone - lost my cap that was in my pocket....
Event warmup:

Alot of talk, stretching, a swim....
Swim
  • 18m 29s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

run a bit more....
Transition 1
  • 04m 18s
Comments:

camel back bladder fell out of sack - had to re-load it. then I forgot to ut my chip on after removing it for getting the wetsuit off! what a dork!
Bike
  • 43m 53s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 16.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Had the rental road bike and I flew! Or at least felt like I did! Passed people all over the place, but was passed in turn by people who made me think I was standing still! there was a gal in a green shirt who passed me every uphill only to get passed by me - I am fearless going down!
What would you do differently?:

Own a road bike so I can train on one. But my training on the mtb must have paid off - I felt like I musta had a ferrari engine on a tractor until getting this road bike! felt sad returning it, but they were so happy for me they only charged me half for rental fee!
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

got my chip back on.....
found out they are doing the splits manually, so this did not affect. I was accused of doing anything to lighten the load on my bike!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 33m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

kinda like a slodge, but I kept it above a walk. Feet were numb from cold, butt and hands were numb from biking.... kinda figured that was all a freebie - it hurts less when you are numb! Had a stitch on mile 2 but it worked out by the end. Saw Joeinco when he was almost finished - looking stong and smug! My friend Jenni sang "Here comes the bride" to me when we passed. Stacers, Ovetta, and Coredump also looked great, kimj had pigtails a-flyin'! I choked up on mile 3 when I looked around that lovely park and thought about how my Alex would have loved to have come there to chase things. I ran the last mile for him!
Post race
Warm down:

more talking and beer drinking. I have to give it to Derreck for cheering me through all the way and being my personal paparazzi! Man - he was fast getting from the bike to the run before I could! Have to thank him for all his support, both via email all spring and summer and in person since he arrived in September. And thank him for waiting around after the race while I yucked it up with my fellow bt-ers! He is the best! In 3 weeks I will marry him and be the luckiest girl ever!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

slow runner.... I did not train alot this last month, but the rest probably did alot in alleviating my bursitis that had plagued me all year.

Swimming
00:18:29 | 750 yards | 02m 28s / 100yards
Age Group: 0/14
Overall: 0/300
Performance:
started out running because the water was very shallow - had a hard time deciding when to dive and swim. Had the lead for a while, but a couple women passed me on the way to first bouy. Then it was a free for all of waves. Just kept on trying to power my way through - my swim mantra is I-am-a-power-machine. When I got out there were a bunch of men who took off 2 heats ahead of me! I looked for Joe as I boasted I would help him off the bouy when I passed - or maybe run him over.... I think that helped motivate him on the swim 'cause I didn't see him at all!

It was SO cool to finally meet you!  I'll have to come swim with you in Chatfield next season; maybe you can come up to the Boulder Res a few times, too.  You, O and me - Oly's next year!  Oh Yeah!

And we're going to have to get faster, so we can drain the beer tent next time!

Awesome job!!! You are a tri machine!!

I didn't know you were getting married so soon....and racing to boot!  I imagine training keeps the stress level at bay.

Thanks for the pictures...they're great!

Since the bike rental place is fond of you now, maybe they will give you a bike if you tell them you are getting married!!

It was so awesome meeting you! But wouldn't you know it, I forgot to check out your butt! Since joining this board I have been more curious about what your behind looks like than your face!!!! LOL!

Anyways, sounds like you had a great race! Way to go, girl. I'll be paying my USMS dues next year so I can go OW swimming with ya next season.

Swim machine! I gotta learn to spot better, as I just follow the people in front of me. I guess if ever end up outfront, I'll need to learn how to spot!

And now I know who to blame for drinking all the beer!

Seriously, it was great to meet all of you today!

Great job Mary!! Now that the tri season is over you can spend the next few weeks concentrating solely on your wedding

It was so fun to meet all of you finally. I'll have to make sure I meet up with you and Ovetta at Chatfield next summer.
