Sunny
Total Time = 1h 52m 8s
Overall Rank = 211/231
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 11/14
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal for breakfast, stressing about whether I'd get there on time, hitting EVERY red light on the way down to the race (SERIOUSLY!!!!), got there with plenty of time!
Event warmup:

Set up transition, talked to Ovetta, swam a little, hung out in the water with Stacers and Ovetta until the start.
Swim
  • 21m 17s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

I haven't trained adequately since Windsor about a month ago. I wasn't scared this time and the suit made the water very comfortable, but I just wasn't in good enough shape and did even amounts of free, breast and back. I did notice however that I seem to have a lot of potential in the water. Whenever I freestyled, I was passing everyone around me and with a much lower stroke count. Next year.....

Also, the neck of my wetsuit puts some pressure on my neck. I think I just need to get used to it, but it was very annoying.
What would you do differently?:

TRAIN!!!!! Maybe I should Pam my neck?
Transition 1
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

I don't know my times yet, but T1 was super slow. I think I just need to practice it until everything is automatic.
What would you do differently?:

Practice
Bike
  • 50m 27s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 14.63 mile/hr
Comments:

I certainly drank too much while on the bike because I was all sloshy and was contemplating, um, talking to a man about a horse, on the run. I did notice that everyone I saw on a MTB, I was passing and everyone I saw on a road or tri bike was passing me (much more of the latter than the former!). Not one exception. I think I need a new bike.

I think I did pretty well on the bike, I didn't need to take the corners so darn slow, though.
What would you do differently?:

Drink less. Grow a sac when it comes to turns.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

People kinda took over my transition spot with their stuff, so I had to move everything and knocked a bunch of stuff over.
What would you do differently?:

Um, gain coordination.
Run
  • 36m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

UGH! This is where my lack of training really came in. I plodded along and didn't walk more than 200 yds of the whole thing (I haven't had a decent run in well over a month, partially injury, partially sloth), but my pace must have been veeery slow. And it hurt. I think my sole thought for the last mile was "Nut up, girl. Gut it out," over and over again. I had very little left for a kick at the end.
What would you do differently?:

TRAIN!!!! Don't get injured. I'm proud of myself for what I did today on that run, but I'm kicking myself for the last month or so....
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and to the bathroom, chatted with my bf and sister and the BT crowd. Drank some beer. Got a lecture from Joe about how it's a guy thing to not train and then decide to race anyhow. LOL!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. Period. According to Hippie Boyfriend Timing Services. I beat my old time at Windsor by one lousy minute. Only this time I didn't have freezing cold water and sticky mud to deal with. I was kinda mad at myself for that.

That said, I was proud of myself because I really left it all out the course. I had almost nothing left for the kick and was exhausted until... well, I'm still exhausted.

Event comments:

My only criticism of this race is that the desperately need a bullhorn for the start. I saw a lot of guys missed their waves because they couldn't hear the girl yelling out who was to start when.

I think that from now on I'm only doing races that have beer at the finish line. ;-)

It wasn't a lecture, honest!  I was just admitting that guys that were the 'star QB in high school' think they can still play at that level...20 years later.

You done good, girl!  You didn't have quite a big of a smile as the Windsor Tri (maybe because Mary drank all the beer!), but you put up a great effort, and you beat your last time!  Excitement and adrenaline can account for some of that (the time in the first race), but this time it was ALL YOU!

Hey, great race! You beat your time, according to HBTS, so that's great! By an inch, or a mile, you bettered yourself, and that's what matters.

It was great to meet you ( and the rest of the BT CO Crew ) today!

-Chris

LOL! Well, perhaps I was overstating the seriousness of your comment. It is kinda true thought. And actually I matched Mary beer for beer! By the time I left they still had Easy Street, so I sucked one down on the way to the car (Eric was driving)!!!

Thanks guys! It was a fun race!

Right on sister!

Get a road bike - it is like flying! My mtb biking was so slow and getting on a road bike was liberating!

Splits are in! My swim rank was pretty good. And considering that it includes the run up to t1 and I got passed by 10 or more people there.... I really think that someday, I'll be a top-notch tri swimmer!!!! I was also pleased to see my bike pace was better than expected. As for the run.... UGH!

great job! I am convinced the swim was longer than 750 meters. My T1 looks like I called my mom on the cell or something!
