I use a Camelbak FlashFlow that fits around your waist, and holds about 45oz. I don't like the extra weight and think it looks dorky, but it is way too hot and humid here to run without something. It's also nice to have a place to stash keys, cell phone, GU, etc. for those longer runs. I now use it for pretty much anything over 45 minutes in hot weather.

I used to live in New Orleans and never used a hydration belt, but there were plenty of water stops and it was convenient to drive around first and leave bottles of gatorade at regular intervals.

I have a fuel belt that I used at the Bay to Breakers more to get used to caryy it with the plan of using it a HIM. I never really noticed the wieght and it kinda made a fun toy to squirt my friends with when they didn't expect it. I've done runs up to 90 min/ 9.5 miles and as long as I hydrate well and get good nutrition through the day I'm fine just grabbing a cold gatorade when I finish.

I love my fuel belt. I've had it for over 2 years now. I can't remember the last time I ran without it. I feel naked if it's not strapped around my waist.

On longer runs, I use the new fuel belt. Love it.

KenyonTri - 2007-07-05 6:22 AM Mine comes with me on any run more than 50 mins. Couldn't imagine training without it.

x2 for my 50 oz. Camelbak.

scoobysdad - 2007-07-05 7:37 AM Do you folks really wear your hydration belts on the course? I understand the benefits when you're doing self-supported runs. But in another recent thread, I thought amiine (Jorge) gave a really good argument for just making use of what's available on the course on race day. I'd love to know because I'm facing this dilemma going into my first HIM.

I do. I'm a high-volume and salty sweater, and a slow runner to boot, so I don't like waiting the 1-2 miles between aid stations to get more fluids and electrolytes. I'll still supplement with water and such at aid stations, but having my own stuff makes a big difference for me. I wore my camelbak in the quarter and half ironmans I did this season (not the sprints), and I'll wear it at the marathon I'm doing in two weeks.
