Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 18/27
Pre-race routine:

Had a piece of toast with PB for breakfast and a GU 1/2 hour before the race
Event warmup:

Ran about 1/4 mile and swam for a few minutes
Swim
  • 00m
  • 750 meters
  • / 100 meters
Comments:

For some reason I get gas in open water swim and have to burp constantly. I don't know if I'm swalling water, air or both. It is hurting my swim a lot. However my swim was still much better than Windsor
What would you do differently?:

I put my wet suit on inside out. I had to go back to change and missed my start time due to confusion. I started at least 1 minute after the rest of the pack and maybe 2.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Used Pam and the suit came off easy. Need to get some road bike shoes

Comments:

Put a lot of effort into the bike and it paid off. Found a few good people to pace with and they made me keep up my speed.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

It was starting to get a little hot during the run and it showed. I was a little fatigued. Last mile was probably my best.
What would you do differently?:

I drank too much water during the bike and felt a little bloated. Should have picked up my pace in the beginning since I still had a lot left at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer, Beer and pictures.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight.

I should have paid more attention to the start. I thought the orange caps were all olympic so I sat and watched my heat take off. Then someone informed me that the 34 and under sprints just left. I feel comfortable taking a minute off of my official time so am marking the race 1:27-34, which beats my goal of 1:28 by a few seconds.

Jeff,

Way to go man. You did it!

On the swim - do you eat just before you get in the water? I find that I get heartburn or have to burp if I drink or eat anything right before I get in the water without burping first. Try not to eat 15-20 min before you start that may help your swim. O. Oh and the race start was a bit crazy. You weren't the only person who missed their wave. But you kicked butt. Yeahhh!
