Subject: First triathlon - transition bags question
Hi, I will participate in my first "official" triathlon this weekend.

I have a question regarding the transitions bags.

Can I use transparent plastic bags for my transition bags?

Thanks

Yeah, most bring some sort of duffle bag w/ everything you'll need. lay it all out, and put the bag right next to your bike. Space is tight but manageable.  Good luck, have fun!

You can put your stuff in whatever type of bag you want to... duffle, plastic, grocery, backpack.

You'll see a lot of athletes with a duffle bag or backpack and they'll take everything out and organize it in the area around their bike like jeepfleeb said. But it's up to you how you want to organize...

I'd recommend practicing your transitions this week so you have a good feel for how you want to lay out your stuff. Good luck!

I actually use a round large bin (like a laundry bucket) to bring my gear. It's around the same size as a small duffle bag. Most things (except wetsuit) fit inside, and if it rains the lid keeps everything dry. During T1 and T2, I actually use it as a stool to help remove the wetsuit and when putting on my shoes.

yeah just make sure you take everything out and know where it is. nothing worse than leaving in the bag and forgettting about it. Remember you maybe able to think about it now but when your tired? forget about it.

Here's a good article on laying out your transition area.  It's definitely a good idea to practice these before race day.

Here's a little video I did of a T1 practice.

An old backpack works fine.

Try to avoid bringing too much junk with you. Some people like to pack like they are going on a three week camping trip. Just bring what you need and enjoy the race.

As all have pointed out, just lay it out and go. It's the same drill all the way up to 1/2-IM -- I don't know what they do at the Tri101 series.

I have to admit that the whole Ironman transition thing seems kind of silly to me. Transition bags, special needs bags, and changing tents, sure, but wetsuit strippers, sunscreen appliers, people bringing you your bike -- seems a little excessive to me.

(of course it could be that I'm jealous...)

I can't seem to get the video to work - the link brings up several buttons ( stop, play, sound etc) but none seem to work for me ?
