Sunny
Total Time = 1h 47m 24s
Overall Rank = 144/259
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 16/21
Pre-race routine:

Up around 4:30. Drank one Boost Nutritional Drink and a small cup of coffee. Hydrate.... Get to the race site around 6:00 AM. Rack bike at 6:30... got to pick my own spot. Picked a spot in the middle of the in/out and racked bike on the end for easy access. Tried to relax....
Event warmup:

About 30 minutes before the start, I do a very short swim... to get a feel of the water and to loosen up some. Also to calm the nerves.
Swim
  • 16m 36s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started at the back of the wave.... started swimming about 15 seconds after the gun went ot let everyone get out in front of me. I thought I could get in my own groove and then start passing people. I didn't know how difficult it would be to work my way through the group. I swam comfortable and that is good. A little slower than I had hoped, but part is probably due to starting at the back of the wave.
What would you do differently?:

I would start at the front of the pack and let people pass me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

This transition was much slower than planned. There was a slight climb coming out of the water and I was a little more winded than expected from the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know. Practice more. Think about not using socks on shorter races.
Bike
  • 54m 42s
  • 18 miles
  • 19.74 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike went like expected. Only 4 people passed me!
What would you do differently?:

Slow down a bit to save energy for the run. Work on my fueling.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Not a bad transition. A little tired from the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know? Practice.
Run
  • 32m 32s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

The run sucked! Plain and simple. My left hamstring started bothering me about a half mile into it. My legs were dead.... bike too hard!
What would you do differently?:

Do more bricks. Run more in training.

Event comments:

Good low-key event. Good place for first-timers and veterns.

Was this your first tri?
Great job on the bike! I sympathize on the feeling of not going to your potential on the run. It sounds like you know what you want to work on to improve. Keep at it!

This was actually my third tri, the first one this year though. I've done one sprint, over two years ago, and one beginner tri last year. I'm more of a long distance trail runner, even though it didn't show in this race.

I will be doing a half-ironman at the end of this month and will be pacing myself during the whole thing so I don't die out there on the run.

Thanks for the encouraging words!

Chris
