When will Ironman come to Texas? We've got 70.3 in Lubbock, why not bring in the big show for us Texans to compete in?? We should start a petition for NAS to get the ball rolling.

Why shouldn't Maryland??  Eagleman is the strongest field and hottest contested 70.3 in the States??

How about California??  Great weather and strong athletes?

And Colorado??  Really separate the men and women from the boys and girls with the altitude up there??

Do you see where I'm going with this????

anyone know why they chose KY as the newest location? I agree with the above statements. I think there are all kinds of great locations... Maybe its because Mike Reily gets jet-lagged from allt he travel.

As someone who grew up the Ohio valley, my reaction to the scheduling of a race there in August was - WTF are the thinking?

Hey Aaron,

I know you are kinda busy the next few days, but after you earn your Kona slot at IMKY, I'd love to hear the background on the IMTX search.  Last year I emailed Melody at IMNA and asked about the possibility of IMTX in the near future, and I got a pretty snippy response, basically saying "not just no, but hell no."  Curious what the background info is.

There was an underground Ironman in NYC that was shut down a few years ago. Fully self supported but people got nervous and ratted on the event.

Maybe we could pick a day, and everyone in their respective locations can do the distance. Then we can all blog it and give awards and stuff. So my vote is for IMEverywhere. Im writing the email to NASports right now.

My guess:

Ironman finds locations that will completely support the race and all the hoopla. Texas is top 3 or even top 1 in numbers of triathletes, but I bet they had trouble finding a supportive location and a race director in which they could create the 'magic'.(As a Texan I would love an IMTX) Truth is that if we are crazy enough to do an Ironman, then a little travel isn't an issue. Great example has been the Tri101 series. good distance, lots of money backing it, but they chose the venue poorly and now the whole thing is in the can.

If and when I decide to sign up for another Ironman, I look at the date and the reputation. Location is an afterthought. Afterall, our entire sport is trying to get to race in that dump of a town they call Kona (just ask those who have raced there). Not exactly a vacation town, but they sure put on a great race!

IMKY happened because the Louisville Sports Commission was very active in pursuing it. The Ville had host the Tri-America series for several years. We are a junior city and looking for anything to get on name on the map. Look at worlds in Des Moines Iowa this year. Same deal.

I live here in the Ville agree a race here has no real appeal. IMUSA, IMCDA and IMFLA all have that special feel. IM Wisc does not. I am afraid the IM KY will not have the special feel either. I look for the race being here for the 5 years of the contract and then moving on.

IM KY race it while you can!
