Subject: Helped out a stranger the other day.
I pulled into a carpark to see a car had a flat. So went into the store, bought what I was after and as I was leaving a young lady (I say that because shewas at least 10 years younger than myself) approached the car. i lowered the window and asked if she needed a hand. She Said yes and after having changed the tyre and nearly damaging the hell of her disk brake when the jack shifted, all went well. I felt pretty good after it.

Moral of the story, don't be afraid to help a stranger out, even if you get nothing in return but a thanks and a smile.

I was walking into home depot on Friday, and saw an old woman and old man (I say old because they were at least 40 years older than me) trying to lift a very large box from a shopping cart into the back of an SUV.  It wasn't going to well.  As I approached, I said "Can I offer you a hand?" and then woman replied "Yes, you can.  He isn't supposed to be lifting anything."

So at this point the woman is on one side of the cart, the man is on the other, and between the two of them they can't lift the box high enough to clear the edge of the cart.  I tried to step in where the man was, but apparently he wasn't in the mood to be emasculated in the Home Depot parking lot and refused to surrender his position.  I kind of awkwardly helped them roll the box up out of the cart, at which point it landed with a thud in the back of the truck.  For good measure, I took the cart back to the entrance.

Good Karma points all around.

Yesterday afternoon a boy slammed his finger in a car door right outside our house. We heard him crying and looked outside to see what was going on, and his family was standing around trying to calm him down. I went out to ask if they wanted some ice. They did, so I grabbed a couple of ziploc bags of ice and gave them to the boy, and said I hoped he felt better soon. I did that when I was about his age--it doesn't feel too good.

But you would be surprised what some elderly people over 80 can do. I know of one who was going to lift a metal fishing boat onto a trailer. I was going to help him because he was 80, but he had been doing this for 65 years and there was no way a younger chap like me would take his place. He lifted that darn thing himself... and I couldn't pull it off myself when we got to the lake!

Seems like every time I go to Home Depot I help an elderly person put a ceiling fan in their trunk. I always wonder who removes it and installs it when they get home.

When I first read this, I thought, cool.  Give back.  Nice Karma. etc.

Then I got to thinking.  Why don't more people do things.  Like that commercial (I can't remember what it is but basically a loop of people helping other people, doing the little things).

For instance, holding a door for someone.  Or actually letting someone go ahead of you in a long line of cars. Or just saying thank you, to anyone that does something for you.  It can make such an impact on a person's day.

To those, above, that did these little random acts of kindness.  Well done!  Keep it up.  I know I probably don't do enough of them myself, so it's a goal for the coming year.

Indeed. Every day on my way to work I drive/ride past a blood bank... and as soon as my race season is over (3 weeks) I'm heading in to donate.

My husband has helped countless people stranded on the roadside - and any time I see someone who needs an assist - I help them.  When we are together and we see something we just turn to each other and say "Let's go get some good Karma"....it's not even a matter of whether we should or shouldn't.  We have to.

I had another observation:

In a big city, you could be stranded and have 10 000 cars pass by with no one stopping to help you out.

In a small town, you could be stranded in the outskirts and the first car you see will stop.

I like my chances in a small town.

Yup, don't underestimate the benefits to living in a small town!
