okay........i've been a lurker long enough, it's time for my first post. I have dreamed about doing a tri since watching the Ironman on TV when I was a little kid. Finally, I have made my mind up (30 years later) to do a sprint or two this year. With that said, here is my background. Extremely athletic in high school and the first couple years of college, since then.....couch potato master. I went from 145 lbs to 186. After getting on the scale and seeing 186, I decided to get off my but and do something. My first goal was to get down to 160 and I've kept it off for two years!! And now i'm getting my competitive bug back again and want to Tri. I am also going to sign up for a 1/2 marathon that is in June. I just want to finish, thats my goal. After that, then we will work on speed.

Thanks for listening,

rob

Hey Rob,

Congrats on reaching (and keeping) your weight goal. Doing a tri is as exciting as watching one. I hope you catch the bug!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. This site is wonderful and full of so much helpful information. I will try to keep my log upto date. Only two post in it so far, but many more to come. My training is limited to my treadmill at home while the snow keeps piling up outside.

Rob,

Welcome to the site.  I am from Fort Wayne and doing all my training inside at the moment.  Way too much snow and windchills below zero.  I am not outside for to long.   I am also planning my first 1/2 marathon in Indy in May with the goal to just finish and enjoy the run.  I am also doing my sprint Tri's in Indy at Indiana Downs.  What ones where you thinking of doing?

hiya Teammate Rob!

I am another one of those stuck-in-the-house-training-while-the snow-piles-up types. Treadmill, elliptical, bike trainer, just need to add water.

Welcome, it will be fun to watch your progress.

Hi neighbor, I'm up here in Niles, MI and yes, the treadmill is it when the thermometer reads 3. If you are planning on doing a half marathon in June, you would be more than capable of handling the Niles-Barron Lake Tri at the end of August. .5 mi swim, 17 mi bike, 5 mi run. Bit more than a sprint, Bit less than an olympic. Ron called in a "sprimpic". 233 people in it last year. I know because I was #233 at the end.
Best wishes and good training.

Welcome Rob!

You've taken the first step forward. Here we are all in similar boats [except the people living in tropical weather] trying to keep up with training and avoiding the snow/cold weather. Keep us updated- lots of luck to you!

Milly

**Jack- how do you change the font color like that- that's cool!

Hey Rob great to hae you here. Indeed it is a great place to hang out. Kudos on the weight loss - the competitive bug says you've got a great new lifestyle going - it's not just about being thinner, but being better - like very day a little better. Sempertri's cook out idea - way cool (I am way too jealous of the name she picked!) My backyard is a 40 acre farmer's field in Iowa - it's big enough - but there are about 9 in. of snow to come.

We will definitely be looking for your report on those first events!

** BTW - Jack is posting with a bit of html - If you want some basic instruction, the best learning site on the net is: http://www.htmlgoodies.com/ Then you will be able to do it too! The code will look like this: font color="#FF0000" face="Arial" size="2" With < at the front and > at the end of the code to tell the browser to do what's inside the brackets.

actually malvey, assuming u have the 'rich text editor' marked 'yes' in your 'control panel', the rich text editor here with the buttons is a kind of WYSIWYG editor...it will convert what u see into html...for example, u type message and use all the buttons up top to change color and fonts and size and u dont' even have to know html - u just highlight your typed text and use the buttons to change the style...it will convert it for u...it just uses html as its the browsers language instead of simple unformatted characters...further more, u can copy html from a webpage and paste it in and it will make it look like a normal web page.  if u go to the '<>' u can actually see the html.  html is a lot to learn...i dont know most of it but it is just the 'mode' to conveniently apply rich text effects and create tables in your posts....

of course if u like writing in html...ITS ALL U!!!  your free to compose in that language and the editor will convert it into text
