Don't you guys get all excited after you fill in that credit card information and click submit. I just signed up for my "A" race next year - the Timberman 70.5 and I'm super excited. So much hope, so much possibility - good times! Now I've just got to work out some kinks and maintain until March when my official training cycle begins. Hurray!

Know the feeling!!! Just signed up for my 1st 1/2 2 days ago ( CA 70.3). Very excited, hoping that will be a motivation to keep working on swimming!

YEP, but my wife doesn't!

Spirit of Racine 1/2 is my "A" for next year - July, 2008.  I'm working on more base this time around.  I can't wait that long to start training, so I'm hitting it NOW!  Motivation, baby!

I love the feeling and the euphoria until I realize that the race isn't for another 8-12 months.  I get over it pretty quickly after that....

I love the motivation for a about a week...and then I sign up for another race so the motivation continues. Crap maybe that's why I have races every weekend, yes the lady is not too excited about that...oh well, it could be worse.

I was just thinking the same thing.  I though maybe they extended the distance to make it harder.  But yes, I love the feeling.

Yes, then I realize I have to train extra hard, ask off at work, get a hotel room, and pay for teh entrance fee. I still get excited though.

I actually know what you are talking about now. I just signed up for my first ever triathlon - NJ State Sprint in July. It is a weird feeling to know that I just plunked down money and am committed to it. No backing out now! My husband is considering competing too so he might soon understand also.

If you're trying a new distance for the first time, you might also get to enjoy that "OMG, what was I thinking?" feeling.

Yup that feeling is terrible.  Just after you put the money down BAM it hits you...

I usually register for races before I have child care, so my feeling is an overwhelming sense of urgency to call every babysitter I have on file and try to line up child care 6 months in advance. And then proceed to freak out when no one says yes. Somehow it has always worked out though...

Indeed...just got sticker shock looking at cost of Vineman as my prospective first HIM next summer...

It was a lot less, um, stress-inducing signing up for the local 10K I'm doing in 11 days...$25. That's "$25"...without the additional "2" in front of it.

Yep!  I get more and more nervous energy as the race gets closer.  It's most exciting when I sign up or when finishing the race.

I'm trying to figure out which of them it is:

    a) "I had an out before, now I'm screwed."
    b) "What sort of moron PAYS to do this stupid stuff?"
    c) "I need to train more. What were my kids names and who is this strange woman in the house?"
    d) All of the above

    -Jot

    (edit: make grammatically correct)
