Hi All,

I thought I should introduce myself so that if I decide to ask a question or respond to one people wouldn’t say “who the he!! Is that guy!”. I did my first “tri” in August (MOP finish) and I’m addicted. “Tri” is in quotes because there were algae issues in the lake we were to swim in so it was changed to a duathlon at the last minute which was a bit of a bummer. I took up running in January and I’ve been cycling off and on (BMX phase as a kid, road phase in my teens, MTB phase back in my 20’s) for a long time. I started swimming in July and had the typical “I’m fairly fit, why am I gasping for breath after one length” experience. I’ve moved past that with some diligence and recently joined my local Master’s swim group. I’m going to swim a lot over the winter and run a few 5K and 10K races to keep me out and about. I’m going to do a ½ marathon in the spring and then tri to do 3 or 4 sprints and an oly over the summer. I look forward to being part of the BT community.

-Brian

Hey Brian,

Welcome, good to have you here. I too had that "I'm gasping for air even though I'm so fit." Being a triathlete is a different breed all together. I used to just lift weights and do cardio occasionally- so I thought I was pretty fit for someone my age (22), but when I started training w/ other triathletes - they had something I did not: endurance!

Good luck w/ training, that's great you're shooting for a few sprints next year. Soon, you'll be up to Olympic distances!

WELCOME to the site. My first race I also had 'swim' issues- I think it MAY be a more common occurance to newbies. [or at least that's how i try to justify the fact that I bought a surf suit which affected my stroke so much, that i finished the sprint swim backstrokeing in like 25 minutes].

Anyhoo, enough about me.... I hope you grow to enjoy the site as many of us here do! Welcome again! :0)
