Hey Ranger Bill!

Glad to see a ranger in here. I don't even come close to being in spec ops, but spent a brief time in Ft. Benning for jump school and loved it.

I remember being down there in 1990 at jump school and seeing a star on a ranger's jump wings thinking to myself....wow. Now, tons and tons of folks have them...how the times have changed for military folk...man, it's a different world now than when I was in.

Hooah.

Hi Steve. Yeah there are a lot of guys with the combat jump star these days! I've been out four years, and it's changed a lot since then...Several of the guys in my unit are still in harms way of course, so I worry about them a lot...

If anyone ever wants to know about what Ranger's are like, they need look no further than my buddy Aaron Weaver's story. Please read about him and tell anyone who will listen his story. His life and death epitomizes courage in the face of adversity...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3920150/

  • ...or read anything about Pat Tillman. If anyone ever saw anything in me that made them think I had something in common with either of these guys, I'd feel like all of the years there were worth the sacrafice of comfort and normal lifestyle! Of course Pat was a triathlete (whom I never had the honor of meeting), and Aaron competed in the Best Ranger Competition twice I believe...one of the most grueling endurance competitions in the world.

  • Triathletes have something akin to the Ranger mentality, I think that has a lot to do with what drew me to this sport despite never being a swimmer or cyclist. It doesn't matter where you come from. If you want something bad enough and start to work toward accomplishing it, all sorts of things start happening to move you in that direction.

    Best of luck!

    that is one good article.

I totally agree with working towards something if you want it bad enough. That's the motto of Ironman.

    US Army Reserve 2000-04

Mobilized to Active Duty MAY 2004 to present--1/329th IN, Infantry Training Brigade, Ft. Benning, GA. My mobilization is done MAY 2006, but I'm working on getting accessioned onto Active Duty.

I'm a 56A--Battalion Chaplain.  I hope to get my Airborne wings this fall so that my next duty assignment will be with Airborne Infantry somewhere, which means my next duty will probably be to Iraq or Afghanistan.

I get sworn in on Friday, August 26th and I'm off to Basic Officer Training in St. Jean, Quebec on September 9th. The offer I accepted is Health Care Administrative Officer, Air Force, Canadian Forces. I'm excited and terrified all at the same time. If you have any tips for basic training, please send them my way...I need all the help I can get!!!
