Subject: wtb bike: too goo to be true?
Hi, i am pretty new to posting, but have been reading for a while and you all seem to know a TON about gear, so i thought i'd see what you thought:

i am looking for a tri bike, i borrowed one this season but am ready to have my own. i want to buy locally so i can make sure it's a good fit, because i had an ill-fitting road bike in the past and don't want to make that mistake.

someone here in LA has a Felt Fw3 for sale, 2007 for $800 and they said it has a few scratches from a minor fall, not a crash. why would they sell it for $600 less than they paid just a few months ago?

any insight would be appreciated! (or questions to ask if i go take a look at it).

thanks!
kerry

You mean like "where'd you steal it from"?

It may just be that they need to get rid of it quick, and WSD bikes aren't that easy to sell.

Does it come with a severed cable lock?

I'd have it inspected by the bike shop to ensure you've got no cracks in the frame, fork, stem, or wheels...an innocent laydown is just that, until it's not...and you don't want to find that out the hard way.

For sure have it checked out for cracks, etc. by a lbs before you buy it. They can also give you a professional opinion on if it really fits.

I'd get it checked, but some people just have more money then they know what to do with...which could be the case here.

I've bought many things for ridiculously cheap before that many could not believe- I have a $2000 surround sound setup in my apartment that I spent less then 100 dollars on over a couple of years buying from yard sales....you just have to know what to look for...

Definitely have it checked, esp the carbon areas. Carbon and falls do not good bedfellows make.

It also runs on 650c's. So be sure to get some spare tubes, as they're less common.

I have a FW3. It's a nice bike. It's not carbon all over. Just on the seat stays, the fork, and the seat post.

I did pay $1400 for mine. Maybe they just want to unload it?

thanks everyone for your input! yeah, my first thought was "who's missing an orange felt?". I will definitely have it checked out before buying now- thanks for the suggestion!
