Subject: Clyde-Athena: Who's going IRON in 2008?

I paused for a few moments before clicking "submit" to realize the hell I would be putting myself through over the next 9 months and bowed my head for a brief moment of silence as I whispered "good bye" to many of the lifestyle habits I knew would have to go.

Then I made the jump:  IRONMAN in 08 for this big man.

Vineman Full; August 2, 2008.

Dude! Vineman Full is the one I have on my radar (haven't signed up yet). I hope to be a non-Clyde before then, though.

It is not an issue of CAN I do.  It is an issue of would it be SMART of me to do it before 2010, and the answer is, probably not.

Doing an IM is my plan for 2008. Most likely the Silverman here in Las Vegas. I'm doing the half this weekend so I can get a feel how hard the full will be next year.

I hear it's one of the toughest IM courses in the states.  I'm trying to recruit more for Vineman

PS - I too am (er was) an Aikidoka

Signed up and excited for IMMOO.  Main goal is to lose 38.5 more pounds before the race.  I want to toe the line at exactly 200 pounds.  I've been competing as a Clyde for so long I would feel strange if for the biggest race of my life I wasn't.  I am loving the anticipation and the thoughts of my next 10 months in training.

Just got into IMF! I am a nervous wreck about the swim since that is my weakest link-a big one!
I have lost 45 pounds this year which helped me a the Marine Corps Mary last week. Slow, but loved it. So I have about 30 pounds to go and I will still be Athena. A great 50th birthday present to myself-one, and probably the only, IM I will do.

You really ought to do the other 3 tenths of mile, I hear you get a medal for that last little bit

I am down to 203 to 205 depending on the day and plan IMCDA at 185, so no Clyde for me.

It's in Santa Rosa...about an hour north of San Fran.  It's in wine country, hence the name.
