The Western Australia IM started a couple of hours ago and there is at least one BTer racing, Mel Wray (Splerph), number 981. Ironman live is broadcasting but they still have not put up any of the swim times. Watching the video feed and all the cyclist are on the wrong side of the road. I'm surprised they don't receive penalties.

If you're looking for something to do this evening follow Mel's progress. She's overcome a bunch of injuries, trained hard during her winter and hopefully will have a great race.

Okay, it's no fun doing an IM watching thread when they don't post updates.  Is anyone else seeing any updates in the athlete tracker section of Ironmanlive.com?

Ok they finally posted some numbers. It looks like she had a good swim. The first bike split looks wrong unless she had a mechanical problem. Those Aussies are fast swimmers. She barely made top half with a 1:08.

TOTAL SWIM 2.4 mi. (1:08:09) 1:47/100m 465

BIKE - 24.9 mi 2:42:36

BIKE - 37.2 mi 3:24:48

I have two teammates racing, and have been watching off and on all day. The delay in posting times was frustrating, and it appears the bike times include the swim time as well.

My teammates are doing very well. Ann Ciaverella is leading the W35-39 half way through the run, and her husband David is in 6th place in the M40-45 late in the run.

I know it's usually warm and windy. In an e-mail I got earlier in the week, David wasn't expecting fast times due to the winds. I guess he was wrong.

These two are real studs (stud/studette). Ann won her AG at IM Roth and at Half Max this year. Despite a flat, and then riding the last 10 miles of the bike with the flat, she was top 10 at 70.3 champs.

David's just scary fast. And Rick, I think his first IM swim time was around 1:30, now he's a sub 1-hour guy. He busts his to be as good as he can be.

Training with them has paid off big for me. Great people, very gracious, and always willing to help others.

Those are some fantastic times!  Congrats to them, and everyone who made it!

Just quickly glancing at the IM live report it sounds like they had ideal conditions, which account for the great pro times!

Yep the conditions were absolutely perfect!  I'm actually surprised that the record wasn't broken.  the swim was amazing!  the wind did pick up halfway through the bike, but nothing like it has been down there.

and it was so much cooler then it had been so it was perfect running weather.

the Friday before the race there was gale force winds which would have made the day hell!

Thanks for watching and support, the conditions were perfect. There was a storm a couple of days earlier which would have made for an interesting swim and bike but on the day it was flat and great conditions, a bit chilly on the bike to start but warmed up thru the day and getting quite warm later in the afternoon for the run.

I had a great day, now to work on some of those times.
