Hi! Been lurking BT for a few months, started posting a little while ago, sparingly. Anyways, just thought I'd take this opportunity to announce an early season race that the Cal Poly Triathlon Team puts on every year at Lopez Lake between San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande. The race, either the sprint or olympic distance, is a fun way to start your season in a beatiful area. All the money raised from this race helps to fund the club to cut costs for the student athletes on their race fees, uniforms, travel (nationals in Tuscaloosa, Alabama), and much more. We invite everyone to come and enjoy the central coast. Most of the information is available on our website (updated whenever we can):

Cal Poly alum here!! I am planning on doing the olympic distance. However I just dropped a load of cash signing up for some other races so I would like to hold off on signing up for a month or so.. I assume that shouldn't be a problem?

I don't think we're capping the entrants, so no sell outs. you should be fine to register whenever.

I would love to race in SLO, although I'm signed up for UCSB in March. I'm an alum, so I gotta priortize the Gaucho race. Maybe next year!

Thanks for posting this! I've been hunting for a good early spring triathlon, and I love the area (my grandmother lives in Arroyo Grande, so that's a bonus). Now I have to decide if I'm brave enough to sign up for the Oly...

This event is so much fun. It's completely run by students, from the ground up. Great volunteers, great atmosphere, and as you know great area.

Ok, so I looked at the results for this race, and holy crap! I think it said 91 athletes for the Oly last year, and the last place was around 3:39. Ummmm....... that's about how long I expect to take. I don't mind being close to BOP, but I don't want to be DFL..... hmmmmmm....
