Subject: Aero Bar Set Up Question

Hello All.

I currently have a road bike with aero bar that connect at the tip. I just purchased new Alumin X Profile Design Aero Bar with Extentions.  I would like to put the gears out on the bar end to make it easier for shifting while in the aero position.

My question is. I have an 8 speed cassette, do I have to find an 8 speed shifter to match up.

Also can anybody tell me the difference in friction or adjustable shifters. I'm on my way to the LBS tomorrow just wanted to make sure I knew what I was asking for before I go in.

All Shimano bar-end shifters can go into friction mode. I still run 8-speed cassettes on all my wheels (because my roadie still has 8-speed STI), so I use 10- and 9-speed bar-end shifters on my tri rigs, and run them in friction mode with no issues.

I'm not going to get into the issues of fit of those Alumin-X bars on the road bike though.
