Subject: Hiya!
Just wanted to say hello to the Minnesota forum.
I am new to triathlon. I've done a couple marathons and quite a bit of biking, so swimming is definitely my weakest link at the moment.
I signed up for the YWCA indoor sprint in January and the Minneman.
My goal for the summer is to do an olympic distance. I was thinking of either the Buffalo Olympic or Liberty Olympic. Any thoughts on either?

Welcome Sarah!  I've never done an Oly, but I volunteered at Buffalo and it was very nice.  Early in the season though.

Welcome!

Can't speak of Liberty, but did the sprint at Buffalo last year. Very well run, very large event. I'm hoping to be out of country, otherwise I would definitely do the oly there this year.

Welcome to the site.  My wife Kelly did the Olympic at Buffalo last year and liked it.  We will both be doing it this year.

Welcome!

I did the Buffalo Olympic (my first Oly) a few yrs ago. Swim is flat, bike is rolling and run is out uphill/back downhill.

Bikes are racked per AG.

It's a VERY well run event with lots of competitors.

Welcome to the addiction Sarah.

I am thinking of doing the Buffalo Olympic this year to start the season. It sounds a little aggressive to start your first season with an Olympic, but if that is what you want to do, go for it. I would probably try to put 1 or 2 sprints in front of my first Olympic. I have done Minneman the last 2 years, and it was a fun race. I don't know if I am doing it this year with it being on the 5th of July.

Hi and welcome to the site! I haven't done Liberty before, but I have done Buffalo several times and it's a great race--very well organized and nice goodie bag!

I volunteered for the Liberty tri last year. As far as volunteering went, it seemed to go smoothly and that things were well organized. The Minneman is a good one to start with but is a sprint distance.

Hi, I just signed up for the Buffalo Oly as my first tri of the 2008 season. I am working on my swimming during the off-season. I think an Oly is doable given the amount of time you have until then. I think you should train for the swim right now. My wife and I just finished planning our 2008 season. Here is how mine goes:

Winter Begone! Duathlon Apr 27th (Race Director)
Oakdale "Spring Classic" Duathlon May May 10th
Gear West Duathlon May 17th
Buffalo Oly Triathlon June 1st
LaCrosse Area Triathlon June 8th maybe?
Rochesterfest Triathlon June 29th (Race Director)
Minneman Triathlon July 5th
Turtleman Triathlon Aug 9th
Jordanelle Triathlon Oly in Park City, UT Aug 23rd
Square Lake Long Course Triathlon Sep 7th My 1st time at this distance, I am sweating already!
Osceola Duathlon in October maybe?

I am excited about a busy year of triathlons and duathlons. I guess I am running some races too. I am starting of the year on New Year's Day with the Rochester Running Room's Resolution Run 5K, then the Securian 1/2 Marathon on Jan. 26th (BRRRRRR!!!!, but fun!), maybe the Fetzer 20K Run in Rochester.

Nuff for now. If any of your are going to do any of these races, maybe we will see you there.

Happy Holidays!

Bill

Your schedule looks good!

I ran the securian 1/2 the last two years. It's a fun race and you get bragging rights for the next month since its usually 5 degrees and windy!

Is the Liberty pretty popular? I think my friend and I will be doing that as our Olympic. It looks like registration is already open, should I worry about this race filling up?
