Subject: Race wheel gurus, advice please I'm trying to decide what I wanna ride on for the Florida 70.3. My choice is either to ride on both my Rev-X's or do a front Rev-X/Rear disc (cover) combo. Right now my disc cover is on an aluminum 850g Xero-Lite XR-1 wheel. I've been toying with riding the combo or the dual Rev-X for a few weeks. Ever since St. A's I've felt like I can accelerate better with the dual carbon wheels. So...I've come up with another solution... I think I'm going to convert my rear Rev-X to a disc. I will take my disc cover off of the Xero-Lite wheel, repunch it to fit the deeper 50mm wheel section of the Rev-X (and may need to trim it a bit, the XR-1 is 30mm deep), and then I'll have the benefits of both a carbon wheel (the Rev-X is lighter by 30g than the aluminum Xero-Lite) and a disc wheel. Plus the profile of the Rev-X is more aero than the Xero-Lite wheel since there are no regular spokes. I like this idea. What do you guys think? OK, next question. My only other choice is whether to use the 9-speed 11-25 Dura Ace cassette that's on the Rev-X or switch to the 10-speed 12-25 Ultegra that's on the Xero-Lite. My thoughts are that the 11 gear is more beneficial than having 10 choices of gears, and having one less cog AND being Dura-Ace, it's lighter anyway. I won't be using many gear on the course, it'll pretty much be climb or hammer. Whatever I do here will probably be what I do CdA on (save for switching out my 25 for a 27 cog in the rear for climbing) so I want to get this right! These are my choices, so please do not answer with "throw the whole thing away and by Zipps"...I would LOVE to...a 1080 front and a sub-9 rear would make me VERY happy. But my wallet just can't support my desire. Thanks in advance for the advice, help, suggestions, affirmations! |
