I ran a 5k this morning and around mile 3 the outside of my foot began to bother me.  When the race was done I sat down for a bit, and when I got up it hurt terribly to walk on it. It is also pretty swollen.  Anyone know what I am dealing with, how to take care of it, and how long I will need to let it recover?

Went and got it checked out today. They said it is plantar fasciitis.  Anyone know any treatment or stretches I can do to help the healing process? Also, has anyone else had this and how long did it take to recover to the point that you could begin running again?

Stretching the calves will help a lot with PF. Tight calf muscles are one of the leading causes of PF. Icing the bottom of your foot (heel/arch) will help bring down the inflammation too. I usually ice with a frozen water bottle and roll it under my foot. My PF got so bad, that I ended up getting a corisone injection (which didn't help at all) and custom orthotics. The orthotics do seem to be helping the heel pain somewhat, but unfortunately they have also exacerbated another problem (neuroma) on my other foot. It's hard to say what your recovery time will be...mine has bothered me for well over 6 months now.
