hey guys, I had a pretty bad spill on the bike monday. Big bruise and 16 stitches in my lower leg. I didn't see the chain drawn across a toll booth in Metro beach. My bike stopped and Ididn't. the doc said no swimming for 10 days i can just about hobble around so running isn't in the cards till next week. I'll be spinning by the weekend hopefully.

good luck to all. and be careful

Oh man, that sucks! Hope you're healing up fast this week. All I can offer is what Jazz##s told me after my first fall: "chicks dig scars."

is it lame if i come to observe?  i'm a newbie and it would be nice to just watch and soak up some knowledge.... also my knee has been giving me some trouble this week and i'd rather not push it.

Not lame at all.  That is totally cool if you want to come and watch.

But, if I were you, I'd bring along my gear....just in case you change your mind last minute and want to get in on the action.

I just did a swim out at the pond and can confirm that it's damned cold, however it's doable.  I highly recommend a wet suit.  I wore a sleeveless one and was ok.  Another thing I'd recommend is a swim cap -  You're going to want to conserve as much body heat as possible and you lose a lot through the scalp.

If everyone wants to bring a dish, that'd be fine.  I'll  have a bunch of hot dogs and hamburgers and of course beer.  I've also got a bunch of paper plates from Costco yesterday.  If there's something else you'd like to grill feel free to bring it.  If someone could bring buns and condiments that'd be great.

Thats the same thing i plan on doing is going to watch and learn.  Maybe do the bike and run.

Did anyone decide if there was going to be a lil clinic for us new peeps?

And was there a final decision on what time everything is happening at?

I think the official start time will be at 10am, and it would be AWESOME to go off en masse, to get the real 'feel' for a swim start Yeats and I plan to arrive early, say 9ish, and since my proposal for school is coming along nicely, I would be happy to help run a transition clinic before the festivities begin.

One caveat- I have notoriously looong transition times But, I've been doing this long enough that I have some street cred, I suppose.

For those that are coming to watch, I strongly encourage you to bring your gear!! This is an extremely laid back group, with all ranges of talents, and all of whom are coming out to have a good time with friends. I can almost promise that you will never have a better opportunity to participate in a free triathlon with so many fun people, in a stress-free environment, so although it's totally cool to watch, what better way to learn than to TRI! hehe, ok, i'm done punning....back to writing my grant.

See you all on Sunday!

Completely agree with Jazz98473526209465.  The loop inside the park is very beginner-friendly and there will be people there of all abilities.  If you want to just watch, fine, but be warned, we may put you to work

Here's a tip from the dark side. Double bag yourself on the swim caps. It makes a huge difference.

Operation Jen Love's Triathlon

All right everyone, here's your mission, and I'm begging you to accept it. I've finally convinced my wife to join us on Sunday. She will watch us race, and were planning on heading over to Coop's afterwords.
I have not yet met any of you, but you all seem like great people. If it turns out that I am a horrible judge of character and you are all a bunch of jerks, please fake it on Sunday!
I need all the help I can get convincing my wife (Jen) that my new addiction is a good one. I think she is almost convinced, I just need her to see that there are other addicts out there, and that they can pass themselves off as normal people when necessary.
I'm really looking forward to this (except the water temp. You could have lied Coop), and I can't wait to meet everyone.

Here is a picture in case you want to say something to her. (She is the one on the left)
Jen
Here are two samples of what you could say to her:
1. You must be Jen. I've heard so much about you. I think it is great how supportive you are of Brad's triathlon hobby.
2. Wow, your even more beautiful than Brad described.

I'll be on my best behavior, have only met folks a couple of times myself, but if they were nice to me, you'll have no problems.

I think Brickey and I (with the boys) will be in attendance - I'm not sure on how we'll be participating, but the whole fam will be there.  I'm glad you are bringing her - this is an AMAZING group of people.  I think it'll be fun.  Although . . . . maybe someone should warn her about Trix - or warn Trixie to behave.  LOL      You know I love ya trix.

You won't have anything to worry about. Some of us are probably going to make your addiction look mild in comparison. I will be coming solo and will be there around 9am in a dark grey Vibe.
