I just heard someone in my office say "we go through a gallon of milk every day" in reference to her famiy's drinking habits. And the guy she was talking to said "we're almost there..."

Just curious. How much are you drinking?

Something more than none and less than one.  Probably about a 1/4 to a 1/2 gallon including what we use for cooking.  But, it's just me and my husband and neither of us really likes to just drink milk.

I haven't had any milk in probably a year.  Get my dairy in with yogurt.

You really like the organic beets in your smoothie?  How is that?

Well, my "family" is just me and I only drink soy and it takes me forever to finish off a carton.

But growing up, we didn't really drink that much milk. We weren't the "milk at dinner" type of family. Neither my sister or I ever liked drinking milk, not even skim - we still don't. We had skim to put in cereal and cook with, etc. But unless it had chocolate/strawberry powder in it, I wouldn't drink it. If they had soymilk back then, I would have been all over it. We both ate a lot of other forms of dairy and other foods with calcium, so apparently, the pediatrician wasn't concerned.

Around 2 gallons a week.  But I have three kids.  My son drinks it every day, I have it with cereal almost every day, DH puts it in his coffee, kids drink it when I give them sweets, etc.  It adds up pretty quickly.

My opinion: I don't think humans were meant to be drinking cow's breastmilk, which is why I'm fascinated at the amounts people consume. Not judging, just fastinated!

Carry on...

No I actually hate beets but since it seems to be an option in every poll,, I thought I'd throw it in...

Three gallons per week, sometime we'll venture into that fourth. Three growing boys, one 16 and two 12. I probably drink the least milk in the family, maybe a glass or two per week.

Makes you wonder about that first person who said "I'm gonna squeeze these little dangly things here and drink whatever comes out!" hehehe I love that line

We go through 1.5-2.5 gallons per week. Okay, I go through 1.0-2.0 gallons per week and my wife MIGHT drink 0.5.

I saw an ad at a gas station in a small town promoting "Buy 12 - 1 Gal. jugs of milk, get 1 free"

I was really curious who in the world they were marketing to that would drink that much milk.

My son (4 ½) drinks a lot of milk, although less than he used to. We put him on skim milk a long time ago at the advice of our pediatrician because of the amount of milk he was drinking. Other than water, there aren’t a lot of healthy alternatives to milk for kids. Beside the fact that he likes the taste, I think he derives some comfort from drinking his milk. He’ll usually have a cup at the end of the day before he goes to take his bath. He seems to find it soothing. It’s kind of like his “nightcap”.

My parents went through almost that much when they invited my brother's water polo team over for dinner. 25 very active guys in their early 20s can drink a LOT of milk.

Generally that kind of stuff is 'bring in the label/cap/upc from 12 and get a gallon free"  They do that here, too.   They don't expect you to buy all 12 gallons at once.

It's just me, but I probably go through about 1 gallon or so a week.  I love milk.

This is true. My first boyfriend in college went through a gallon of milk a day just by himself (and he was in great shape, so it wasn't like it was catching up on him). I thought that was so gross.

Blech...milk...

With 2 boys, we go through about 2 gallons a week - some weeks less some more - usually depends if they are in an Apple Juice, Milk, or water mood.  Aside from the kiddos, we used to purchase milk for the sole purpose of adding to cereal - which might explain why my wife and I are bent over with horrible scoliosces (sp?) from not enough milk in our 20s.

Milk is my favorite food.  I used to drink a gallon a day while I was in high school and college.  I tell people that's why I am so much taller than anyone in my family, that and my mom sunbathed me as an infant.  Anyways,  my wife has made me slow down on milk consumption, so the two of us go through only 4 gallons a week now.

A gallon a week, sometimes we get into a 2nd one, for me, my wife, and our 15 year old daughter.  Though honestly, I only use it on cereal.

Mmmmmmm......Captain Crunch with Crunchberries.....Granola cereal with raisins....

I have eight sisters and three brothers, growing up we'd go through twelve to fifteen gallons of milk a week. Now that I have three kids of my own, I realize how comical my family must be to others. (Everyone at the local Foodtown knew us by name.)

My kids and I (my wife won't drink milk) go through three or four gallons a week...1%.

The little one drinks organic whole milk, supposedly good for her brain development.  I may rethink this one because at 18 months she's just about as smart as me - might be skim for her from here on out so I don't feel so poorly about myself.

My wife and I drink Soy milk, primarily on cereal and in protien shakes
