They should have made that nimrod explain why she only ate one cookie.  Did she really think she was going to beat Scione?  No.  I think it was personal.

Helen is a selfish idiot.  Keep in mind she is the one who decided she should stay over sending her daughter home.  Have never like her.

edited to add this is from mndiver, not his lovely wife.

joker70 - 2009-03-18 12:39 PM I believe that they were all ready to "finish" a HM except for Ron (the dad). They have been working out for weeks now and I'm sure that they are up to 2x 1 hour on the dreadmill per day. Add to that the strength training they've been doing. I'll have to give credit to the contestants who did their HM on indoor tracks. Tara said she had to do 100+ laps... I would go postal! Did anyone remember the challenge last week where Sione was swimming in the pool, head up, the whole way. That was hard to watch for me. Get Terry Laughlin in there to teach them TI. .

Ya, they even have a pool in the back of the house they stay in on the ranch, never  seen anyone use it on the show, I guess it looks good though!

I've seen them work out in it on the "outside only" weeks and one season a contestant was hurt and couldn't really run and they showed her using it.

They use it...really.

Ron, the dad, has used it quite a bit this season, because of his knee. But, I don't think they utilize it near enough.

Oh, and my peeve for the week was that Helen kept calling it 'a half a marathon' instead of just a half-marathon. Eeeek.

I love Bob & Jillian - esp last night when Jillian went on her "Listen to me rant".  I almost died of laughter.  Bob seems like he is a really great person - he genuinely cares about people and is very open with his feelings.  I'm not going to get in an argument with you about how people should be allowed to be who they are bc that will just aggravate me.  Still, I don't see how anyone's sexual preference is relevant to being a personal trainer on a reality show.

However, I cannot stand that hostess. She seems like she has problems reading cue cards and please can she put her boobs away?!

Whoa - I assume those comments are a joke, because no way would someone really say that on a triathlon board.  Right?  I'm going to choose to believe that.

Anyway...  you have to give Alison's boobs a little slack.  She is about 8 months pregnant at this point.  Based on the timing, she will end up giving birth before the end.  I wonder who will replace her? Please let it not be Caroline Rhea!

I am slightly troubled by the finishing times, only because after the first mile Tara was already at 10 m/miles.  Do you think she ended up with neg splits? I wonder if someone miscounted a lap or to.  Although I do think her time was reasonable enough based on my experiences.  SHe is just plain tough and determined.

10' miles would be 2:11, right?  So she didn't need negative splits...in fact, she obviously slowed down towards the end if she started with 10' miles.

You're right, I didn't fully explain my thought I guess.  She ran her first 1.2 miles in 10 minutes, then it was 2 miles in 20 minutes.  My thought was that she was on a slippery slope of positive splits and would be surprised if she could reel it in and make the 2:24 still.

She probably did the classic "start out too fast" thing.  Yo-yo'ed around a bit until she found a pace.  That, and I'm not convinced NBC did the greatest job of showing us splits.

It's almost like she's trying to play innocent except she's not doing it NEARLY as well as Kristen.  I think Kristen will win if she can get to the finals.  She is a HUGE threat.

I love Tara, but she didn't weigh enough at the start to compete in the finale.  Though I said that about last season's winner too.

They make such a big deal about how Ron's weight loss numbers are low every week...but after Tuesday's episode I was realizing that he's lost over 100 pounds.  A few seasons ago that was VERY rare to do while still on the ranch.  So I guess I don't get how he's not "losing as much as everyone else".  I realize he's a bit of dead weight for challenges...but he IS losing weight just as fast as anyone else.  And I think as he loses the weight he's going to pick up steam.

HAHA the dude running inside on the gym track with Tara?  I thought it was unnecessary since he could have kept whatever on a table and had ppl hand it to him as he went by.  Or even in a cooler then it could stay cold if her preferred.  To each their own I guess!

As far as Ron - you are right, J.  I didn't realize he had lost so much.  My heart goes out to his other son too, I hope he's on BL next season - that would be fun!  Esp if he loses more than his bro & dad!

Considering that they let Dean cheat on his "full" marathon, I'm skeptical of anything I see on this show

X2 to that.  I don't believe the 2:24 time for sure.

Hmmm I do. Tara and Scione both alluded to running the entire time (except for Scione's cramp at the end). Very doable, especially when $10K is on the line, and they had pacers and a cheering squad the entire time.

My first half marathon time was in the 2:23 range and I ran, albeit slowly, the entire time. I saw 200lb ladies finish well before me. It can be done.

I was a little sad that the 2:24 Half Marathon time was a full 11 minutes faster than my half marathon PR. And I haven't lost 100 lbs. (!!!) I think I have a new goal.

Saw it last night...  Nothing more to add...

Didn't understand the cookie strategry.

I thought the different running conditions was a little unfair.  I would prefer outside, but if it's for 10k, I could HTFU for the track.  Plus it's controled conditions, so probably a touch faster and easier on the body.

Wow, you can really tell that obesity is sort of a family and lifestyle issue (maybe genetic).  Obese people look like they come from obese families.

I agree that 2:24 is a totally realistic time for Tara.  I ran my first 1/2 in 2:26, and seeing her pace, it looked to be similar to what I was running at that time.

Totally realistic. Before they even started, I turned to my wife and predicted "around 2:20" for Tara.

(For the record, my wife's first ever HM--after she lost 62 lbs. and with a couple months of prep--was 2:16. Tara's shown that she's naturally athletic in all the prior challenges. Nothing at all surprising about her time, IMO, esp. given all the hours on the treadmill over two-plus months.)

Well he was running indoors...why not just set a bottle on one of the tables he was running by dozens of times.  It just seemed a little over the top.
